VB/MySQL.com » The VB.NET-MySQL Tutorial – Part 1 Introduction While the articles at vbmysql.com have been well received, there is always something new to cover. Every week I get requests for new sample code and articles explaining some new aspect of using Visual Basic and MySQL. One of the recurring requests has been for a full tutorial covering the creation of an application, from design to deployment, using Visual Basic and MySQL. In response to these requests I have written this article as the first of a series of articles that will provide a full tutorial for the creation of an application using Visual Basic.NET and MySQL. Object-Oriented Perl I've recently started learning to play the game of Go. Go and Perl have many things in common -- the basic stuff of which they are made, the rules of the game, are relatively simple, and hide an amazing complexity of possibilities beneath the surface. But I think the most interesting thing I've found that Go and Perl have in common is that there are various different stages in your development as you learn either one. It's almost as if there are several different plateaus of experience, and you have to climb up a huge hill before getting onto the next plateau. For instance, a Go player can play very simply and acquit himself quite decently, but to stop being a beginner and really get into the game, he has to learn how to attack and defend economically.

Beginning Game Development: Part VIII - DirectSound | Coding4Fun Articles | Channel 9 - StumbleUpon Welcome to the eighth article on beginning game development. We have spent a lot of time working with the graphics capabilities of DirectX. We also covered how the DirectX API allows us to control input devices. Now we are going to look at another facet of DirectX, the ability to control sound devices. This capability is found in the DirectSound and AudioVideoPlayback namespaces. Sound in Games

Understanding Service Oriented Architecture Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) promises to provide us with the ability to assemble complex, distributed systems by selecting and creating compatible parts called services. So far, SOA has delivered a lot of hyperbole to the Web. Gartner recognized it as one of the five hottest IT trends in 2005 , claiming that "By 2008, SOA will provide the basis for 80 percent of development projects." At JavaOne 2005, 82 of the 168 technical session PDFs contained "SOA." In July of 2005, there were 1.4 million Google hits for "service oriented architecture."

Perl Programming - Free computer book Perl is a dynamic programming language created by Larry Wall and first released in 1987. Perl borrows features from a variety of other languages including C, shell scripting (sh), AWK, sed and Lisp. Structurally, Perl is based on the brace-delimited block style of AWK and C, and was widely adopted for its strengths in string processing, and lack of the arbitrary limitations of many scripting languages at the time. Larry Wall began work on Perl in 1987, while working as a programmer at Unisys,[3] and released version 1.0 to the comp.sources.misc newsgroup on December 18, 1987. The language expanded rapidly over the next few years. free help- 12 of the best places - gizmo's Where do you go when you need help with a computer problem? One place to find answers is in one of the numerous technical forums on the Internet. These forums are community sites whose members help one another with technical problems. Some of these are major sites moderated by a group of experienced and knowledgeable experts and are excellent sources of free computer help. Here is a selection from the forums that I find most useful. Some are more specialized than others but all are useful places to know about.

List of emoticons A simple smiley This is a list of notable and commonly used emoticons or textual portrayals of a writer's mood or facial expression in the form of icons. The Western use of emoticons is quite different from Eastern usage, and Internet forums, such as 2channel, typically show expressions in their own ways. In recent times, graphic representations, both static and animated, have taken the place of traditional emoticons in the form of icons. You want to print them in newspaper, printing multiple plots on the same chart to save space. But here’s the catch: no two plots on the same chart can overlap, lest the readers be confused. Look at the plots and figure out the smallest number of charts required. Looking for a challenge like the riddle above?

Magic Memories Just Shuffling Along: The 21-card trick Once you understand the mechanics you can develop your own twists To get the trick to work you have to follow the instructions exactly. Trouble is with human languages the words sometimes aren't precise enough to be totally clear. That's why programming languages were invented - they are just languages with very precise meanings for giving instructions. Just in case you are having trouble making it work, let's go through the instructions in a bit more detail and with pictures. It involves several deals, each apparently shuffling the order of the cards, but doing so in a rather cunning way.
