PLASMASTUDIO AND GROUNDLAB "FLOWING GARDENS" PROJECT OPENS IN XIAN'S INTERNATIONAL HORTICULTURAL EXPO 2011. "Plasmastudio/Groundlab "Flowing Gardens" project has officially opened In Xian, China as part of the International Horticultural Expo 2011.

PLASMASTUDIO AND GROUNDLAB "FLOWING GARDENS" PROJECT OPENS IN XIAN'S INTERNATIONAL HORTICULTURAL EXPO 2011

The project is a collaboration between AA Landscape Urbanism tutors Eva Castro, Alfredo Ramirez,Eduardo Rico (Partners of Groundlab) and Plasmastudio (Holger Kehne, Eva Castro), and LAUR comprising 37 ha of landscape and 3 buildings (Guangyun Entrance, Creativity pavilion and a Greenhouse) . Specifically the Siq and the tomb carvings. I looked into the effects of man on the natural landscape, particularly over time and the relationship man forms with his environment. What was of interest to me was the power relationship between the two : WJT. Mitchels ‘Landscape and Power’ informed much of this. Amman currently has a development strategy for the downtown area. The other areas of interest in this plan are the pedestrian spine coming from the west into downtown Amman, through the city and main public areas towards our site.

In terms of public realm, Amman has succeeded in the transformation of spaces into far more pedestrian friendly environments. There is a vibrant night life and spaces such as these are occupied, where people gather and play music. There are other developments which are occuring in the greater amman. Our site is effectively a facade to the city. The bird market for example. Braided Urbanism by Anna Papachristoforou, Renata Paim Tourinho Dantas, Irene Guerra and Julia Cano. Four graduates from the MArch Design Research Laboratory course at the Architectural Association in London have sent us these images of their thesis project, a conceptual proposal for an environment to host Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China.

Braided Urbanism by Anna Papachristoforou, Renata Paim Tourinho Dantas, Irene Guerra and Julia Cano

Called Braided Urbanism, the group project was carried out by Renata Paim Tourinho Dantas from Brazil, Anna Papachristoforou from Cyprus, Irene Guerra from Spain and Julia Cano from Colombia. Here's some more information from the project team: Tutor: Yusuke Obuchi Understanding urbanism as the convergence of multiple, interconnected and simultaneous layers of circulation, activities, flows of people and of information, this proposal for a braided form of urbanism embeds the organizational and geometrical logics of lacing in a range of systems in which strands can be organized to obtain varied yet controllable outcomes. Fashion meets Architecture with Jorge Ayala. Once again, Fashion skills help emerging designers’ through different disciplines in order to bring their ideas to the table. Mexico City-born Jorge Ayala, London/Paris-based architect approached his proposal on a new urban agglomeration using synthetic fabric as the material basis for his research process.

Ayala said that “fashion” and specifically the folded fabric pattern help him in order to tackle the genericness (and sameness) of certain urban design proposals that one see out there quite often. Challenge for architects. A multitude of spatial scenarios on how surfaces could behave and proliferate, Présentation Finale.

© Ay_A Studio View original post. [Ay]Architecture. Groundlab. Published on January 06, 2009. Craft_ID researches legibility in complex urban scenario thrived on formal and spatial architecture articulation coherence. Diversity and variance reconfigure complex organisation on multiple scale, articulating highly integrated systems in ordered composition, in which subsystems are continuously negotiating and polluting each other in a gradual transformation. Navigation and orientation, figure ground relations and hierarchies are not anymore driven by a priori predominance of elements, but emerge in the relations object /field and inter articulated fields.

The design proposal challenges urbanism to find alternatives to predetermined grids parcelling land using computational fluid dynamics as a tool to achieve highly integrated, coherent urban systems within com¬plex and differentiated architectural fields for the Shanghai Expo 2010 site beyond 2010.
