China and the Afghan Endgame - Zhu Feng Exit from comment view mode. Click to hide this space BEIJING – Ever since US President Barack Obama decided to begin withdrawing American troops from Afghanistan, global interest in what role (if any) China will play in determining that war-ravaged country’s future has grown dramatically. After all, China is not merely a neighbor of Afghanistan, but the world’s most important rising power – indeed, a “world power,” as Mike Mullen, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff proclaimed in Beijing this past June. If China proves itself willing to help shore up Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s administration, it will not seek to gain any immediate advantage from the withdrawal of US forces. But, despite the billions of dollars China has invested in developing Afghanistan’s natural resources, it is hard to see it undertaking a policy of broader and proactive engagement there.

ALEC – American Legislative Exchange Council More than 40 years ago, a small group of state legislators and conservative policy advocates met in Chicago to implement a vision: A nonpartisan membership association for conservative state lawmakers who shared a common belief in limited government, free markets, federalism, and individual liberty. Their vision and initiative resulted in the creation of a voluntary membership association for people who believed that government closest to the people was fundamentally more effective, more just, and a better guarantor of freedom than the distant, bloated federal government in Washington, D.C.

Canadian Public Policy - Home Page Canadian Public Policy is Canada's foremost journal examining economic and social policy. The aim of the journal is to stimulate research and discussion of public policy problems in Canada. It is directed at a wide readership including decision makers and advisers in business organizations and governments, and policy researchers in private institutions and universities. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of many public policy issues, the contents of each volume aim to be representative of various disciplines involved in public policy issues. This quarterly journal publishes interdisciplinary articles in English or French. Abstracts are provided in both languages.

IDSS COVID-19 Collaboration (Isolat) - IDSS Isolat: a data-driven approach to addressing the COVID-19 pandemic IDSS COVID-19 Collaboration (Isolat) is a volunteer collaboration organized by IDSS to provide systematic and rigorous analyses of data associated with the Covid-19 pandemic in order to inform policy makers. Email idss-isolat@mit.edu to collaborate with the group, or with any questions you may have. While the specific questions are evolving as more data is collected, there are three broad areas that this group is addressing: The Journal of Military Operations – New, Free Online Academic Journal The Journal of Military Operations, a new peer-reviewed academic journal, has just published its first issue. It is available online at You have to register, but it is free. Its editor, Dr Jim Storr, states on the Birmingham “On War” blog that it aims to fill a gap for a journal “which focuses on how armed forces do, and should, fight wars.” This is a very promising venture, which fills a gap in the market and is free. Judging by the membership of the Editorial Advisory Panel, it should be a high quality publication:
