He had no formal training in photography, but the genius of his early work was quickly acknowledged by Edward Steichen, who included Leiter in two important MoMA shows in the 1950s. MoMA’s 1957 conference “Experimental Photography in Color” featured 20 color photographs by Leiter. After that, however, Leiter's personal color photography was, for the most part, not shared with the public. The first European retrospective of Saul Leiter's street photography is taking place right now at the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson in Paris. Leiter, who is 84 and still quite active, came to Paris for the opening of his show. “I started out as a fashion photographer. “I spent a great deal of my life being ignored. Mais D… n’avait pas de visite à ce moment-là et il a accepté. J’ai été amené dans sa chambre et nous avons pris le temps de discuter. En écrivant ces lignes, je pleure. D… a 34 ans. C’est pour elle qu’il s’est marié. Les infirmières sont confiantes. Mais ce qui l’embête le plus, c’est l’emprunt hypothécaire. D… ne se tracasse pas de sa propre mort. « J’ai toujours été contre le mariage. J’ai un nœud terrible dans la gorge. Une infirmière m’a confirmé qu’il était relativement courant de voir des jeunes aux soins palliatifs. En refaisant mon lit, l’infirmière a déglutit. « Il a exactement l’âge de mon fils. ». La toute première photo aérienne de Paris, fut prise par le grand Nadar à partir d’une montgolfière à 80 mètres au-dessus du sol en 1858 ! Il s’agit d’une photo réalisée en ballon captif ! Vers 1920, la maison d’édition “Aéro-Photo” a également réalisée une superbe série de photos aériennes de Paris : “Paris vu en avion” (cf ci-dessous). PHOTOS: Haunting Underwater Art Gallery Renowned Austrian photographer Andreas Franke has transformed a sunken ship into his very own Rococo art gallery. Several of the artist’s haunting underwater photos are displayed over 100 feet under the sea inside the SS Stavronikita, a Greek freighter located off the coast of Barbados. "With my photographs of sunken shipwrecks, I want to pull the spectators into unreal and strange worlds. The “Stavronikita Project” opened in December 2012 and is currently a popular tourist diving spot. He claims his underwater works are open to multiple interpretations. "The moment I start the photo shoot, everything becomes clear: the concept, the realization, even the post-production," Franke said in a written statement. An avid scuba diver, Franke has worked as a photographer for companies such as Ben & Jerry's, Coca-Cola, Ford, Nike and Visa, according to his website.
