Diagrams: Tools and Tutorials Advertisement Being a web-developer means not only being able to design web-sites or program their functionality. Sometimes it also means to be able to explain complex issues clearly and be able to present to your potential customers reasonable and convincing arguments – in order to find the best compromise between the customer’s wishes and the standards you respect. In fact, it is essential to make sure the customer understands which advantages you are actually offering and why this or that layout and markup are better for a given web-project. Developing web-sites over the last few years, we’ve been stumbling over the same problem over and over again: how can I visualize my idea easily and quickly? Since human being is used to visualize things, trying to understand the idea behind them, recently we’ve spent hours googling for useful tools and tutorials which would help us to create images – mostly, diagrams, charts, chart-flows etc.
Interesting, Easy, Beautiful, True? I’ve been doing a few interviews to promote my book, The Visual Miscellaneum, and a question keeps coming up. What makes good information design? This is the point where I go a bit glassy. To be honest, I don’t know. I am unschooled in both information (I was a college dropout) and design (I am a self-taught designer). I’ve never really thought about it.
Wireless, the Biggest Tech Platform in History. Now What? Bio Paul Jacobs Paul Jacobs has served as CEO of Qualcomm since 2005 and was appointed chairman of the board in 2009. Under his leadership, the San Diego–based company has emerged as the leading provider of chipsets for mobile devices and is consistently ranked at the top of its industry on Fortune’s list of “Most Admired Companies.” The 30 CSS Selectors you Must Memorize So you learned the base id, class, and descendant selectors—and then called it a day? If so, you're missing out on an enormous level of flexibility. While many of the selectors mentioned in this article are part of the CSS3 spec, and are, consequently, only available in modern browsers, you owe it to yourself to commit these to memory. And by the way, if you're having trouble with your CSS and want a pro to look over it and fix any errors, you can find some qualified freelancers on Envato Studio. Let's knock the obvious ones out, for the beginners, before we move onto the more advanced selectors.
8 Abandoned Theme Parks Abroad “Open” for Exploration Call it exoticism: theme parks outside the US seem just a smidgen creepier than those we grew up visiting. Safety guidelines are questionable, attractions are a bit lees planned-out, and themes are chosen with a decidedly laissez-faire attitude. Although these factors might be a detriment to theme parks while they’re still in business, they certainly increase foreign parks’ appeal to urban explorers with an eye for the bizarre once they’ve been abandoned. Between South Korea’s affinity for anthropomorphic roller coasters, Japan’s misguided desire the please the Ruskies, and Berlin’s story of a carnival master turned Peruvian drug smuggler, exploring international abandoned parks is a big notch on any urban explorer’s camera strap.
CSS For Bar Graphs Having a working knowledge of XHTML and CSS when developing applications is a big help in knowing what can be done client-side and what should be generated server-side. Recently we’ve had to tackle some interesting visualizations which we coded in XHTML and CSS. The method we used, while fairly simple, was a big help to the engineer and created a very flexible and inexpensive solution. We thought we would share our solution and code in case anyone else ran against similar situations. Update I posted a live example page with everything in tact.
An Infographic by Paper Leaf Design In the past couple of years, we’ve designed & released two free, popular design education resources: the Color Theory Quick Reference Poster, and the Elements of Design Quick Reference Poster. These items are not only being used at here at our web design and branding agency, but are also now being used in classrooms all over the world. However, we kept getting one specific question: when will you make a Principles of Design poster?
London Gets First Electrified Roads That Charge EV's Wirelessly It's no secret that toxic, heavy, and expensive batteries are the Achilles' heel of electric vehicles. But that's all about to change.
