The bitter tears of the American Christian supermajority The most persecuted minority in the United States is not Muslims, African-Americans or immigrants. It’s our Christian supermajority that’s truly oppressed. Verily, consider three anecdotes from the past few weeks. On March 2, three Baptist ministers in Akron, Ohio, arranged for the local police to mock-arrest them in their churches and haul them away in handcuffs for the simple act of preaching their faith. A video was posted on YouTube to drum up buzz for an upcoming revival show. void life(void) Last week I attended the First Internet Forum in Brazil, and I was surprised to see a representative of SindiTelebrasil (Brazilian Telcos Syndicate) reading a statement in one of the debate halls (at the Track 5 debate, where net neutrality was one of the themes), asking for some flexibility on the regulatory net neutrality definition […] Filed under: English | Comments (66) A few months ago I wrote a post announcing the completion of the ODF 1.2 development.

The Myth of Persecution The Myth of Persecution: How Early Christians Invented a Story of Martyrdom is a 2013 book by Candida Moss, a professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of Notre Dame. Moss's thesis is that the traditional idea of the "Age of Martyrdom", when Christians suffered persecution from the Roman authorities and lived in fear of being thrown to the lions, is largely fictional. There was never sustained, targeted persecution of Christians by Imperial Roman authorities.
28C3 We, Sebastian and Julian, are part of last year’s core team of live interpreters. In the past we have translated at several Chaos Communication Congresses, together with Volty who cannot be there this year and many others. We want to continue this tradition of translating important talks such as the Fnord News Show and the Hacker Jeopardy, but also others, depending on our resources. If you are interested in helping out, please meet us on Day 1, December 27th, at 21:00 in the angel area down in the basement. You may also contact us via e-mail at Sebastian.Lisken _at_ gmx.net or julian _at_ phinn.de – or via twitter at @hdsjulian. What Honeybees Can Teach Us About Gang-Related Crime - Neighborhoods There is a mathematical model in the field of theoretical ecology that describes how honeybees and chimpanzees and lions divide up space. In the grand competition for limited resources – i.e., dinner – bee colonies and prides of lions will generally create non-overlapping territories. Boundaries form between one group and the next, as the least bit of competition arises between them, and invariably that boundary sits smack in the middle between the beehives (or lion dens) on either side of it. All of this sounds a little too simplistic to describe human behavior.

But first we’d like to take a second to thank each and every person that entered their work from around the world. Not only did you knock us off our feet with stunning photography each and everyday, but you also made your voice heard via social media with kind words about our mission. Hundreds of you also sent us amazing emails telling us how inspired you were by Adventure.com and that in return truly inspired us. So earlier this month, in partnership with 500px — the world’s biggest and best community of photographers, we asked their community what adventure means to them and to submit their best photo(s) tagged with our hashtag #VentureOut. We scoured the entries and it was seriously one of the toughest decisions we had to make.

It can be heard at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and at the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund. Bankers sprinkle it into the presentations; politicians use it leave an impression on discussion panels. Occupy the Future To read more articles by Noam Chomsky and others in the Public Intellectual Project, click here. Delivering a Howard Zinn lecture is a bittersweet experience for me. I regret that he's not here to take part in and invigorate a movement that would have been the dream of his life. Indeed, he laid a lot of the groundwork for it. If the bonds and associations being established in these remarkable events can be sustained through a long, hard period ahead, victories don't come quickly, the Occupy protests could mark a significant moment in American history. I've never seen anything quite like the Occupy movement in scale and character, here and worldwide.
