After the success of 80 Alternatives to YouTube and The Comprehensive Guide to Google Free Tools in Education, I am expecting my readers to find this guide of the same importance if not more. Here is an excerpt from its introduction : "As educators Google is the backbone of our online activities. For Educators Symtext has built a more effective and efficient platform for schools, educators, and publishers to manage and deliver digital instructional materials to students. Institutions using the Liquid Textbook platform can help Educators create their own Liquid Textbook for each course by blending “chunks” of digital content from a variety of publishers and other sources – including chapters from textbooks, cases, articles, videos, photos, podcasts, and presentations. These resources can be combined with your own materials, and even include student generated content. Symtext’s platform

Telling Social Stories with Storify After my post about perceptions versus reality in the classroom a few weeks ago, several folks wrote to ask about Storify. I’ve been playing around with Storify for a few months now, since the very end of its private beta, and I like the way I can weave tweets, links, videos, and other media into one coherent storyline. The interface is as simple as it could be: on the left side, you can browse through content from Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Google search, RSS feeds, or by entering links directly. Development of Draft Make something people want.Paul Graham I’ve made a lot of stuff no one wanted. Trying to grow my first business, Inkling, I did what good Lean Startup followers would do. I turned some of our technology into a small “project management software” prototype and used Quora and LinkedIn to set up meetings with project managers. One thing became clear fast.

Recursive outlining and writing I am in the middle of writing my dissertation, and I’m constantly experimenting with my writing process flow and set-up. I have two monitors, a 19 and a 22-inch one. The overall writing process appears to be a recursive process of alternating between outlining and writing (though the two are not always clearly separable). 2tor Raises $32.5 Million Series C To Make Online Education Great “One reason online education isn’t that good is I don’t think it is trying to be that good,” says John Katzman, the CEO of 2tor, an online education startup that is trying to break that mold. The company, headquartered in New York City’s Chelsea Piers, just raised a $32.5 million series C financing, led by Bessemer Venture Partners. All of its existing investors—Highland Capital, Redpoint, Novak Biddle, City Light—re-upped. Since it was founded in 2008, 2Tor has raised a total of $65 million. Digital Texts and the Future of Education: Why Books? (EDUCAUSE Quarterly Key Takeaways Students have expectations for interactivity and connectedness when they use digital devices, yet these expectations are frequently unmet when using most digital textbooks, resulting in a lack of mass adoption. Visions of media-rich, cost-efficient educational texts available on a variety of digital devices seem frustratingly slow to solidify due to a wide range of factors, including failure to effectively exploit the pedagogical potential of mobile devices. Abilene Christian University and GYLO partnered to investigate student attitudes and perceptions of impact of using a mobile device app as a supplemental tool for teaching statistics. A series of pilot studies found a positive correlation between use of the app and perceptions of increased engagement and consequently higher grades in the course.
