Obsessive consumption, rule-based projects, impostor syndrome, telling our inner a**hole where to go, and “making piles of crap” because that’s the only way you get better. Oh. This woman. So smart, so funny, so talented. I’m talking to Portland based illustrator/educator Kate Bingaman-Burt … she always has a ton of cool things on the go, so I am slightly stunned that I was able to get her for the podcast. She tucked herself away in a quiet corner of her office at school, and we talked and talked and talked {we went a little longer than normal!}. Yep, she drew {and shared} all of her credit card statements until her debt was paid off. Gah! So. Post-its. ps.

Branding Design for ‘sTREEt Campaign’ - Logo Designer Due to commercialisation and public negligence, the trees in Gangnam city (South Korea) are struggling to survive and are slowly disappearing. The brand “sTREEt” was created to draw attention to the disappearance of the trees in the streets. The rectangular shaped logo was designed with a frame in mind, inducing the audience to actually look at the street trees. Posters were placed at the entrance of a shopping street to get people’s attention. Hella Jongerius' Danskina Dutch designer Hella Jongerius is a strong example of this strand of design, particularly given her presence at this year's Salone Del Mobile. Jongerius' Berlin-based Jongeriuslab studio has been much celebrated for its craft-influenced industrial design since its foundation in the 1990s, yet Jongerius' influence is rapidly extending beyond her own practice. At this year's Salone she will present projects for Vitra, Artek and Danskina – all brands that she provides art direction for. The role of an art director* is a complicated one. While art directors typically contribute their own work to the brands they serve, they are also managerial figures. The art director is usually responsible for managing a brand's back catalogue, forging new collaborations, developing future collections and extending previous ones, as well as consulting on the company's future direction.

Hi-Fructose Magazine In his portrait series, the Austrian artist Aldo Tolino deconstructs, folds, reassembles and weaves printed photographs in order to create origami-like sculptural pieces. Tolino then re-photographs the works, converting the pieces back into two-dimensional objects. The disturbing quality of the images may not just be due to the fact that the folded faces appear distorted, disproportional and almost entirely stripped of identity. In their conversion back to a photographic object, these pieces also suggest a cycle of infinite reprocessing and deformation, wherein the portrait will only continue to move further away from the original “true” image.

Why Curation Will Transform Education and Learning: 10 Key Reasons There is a growing number of key trends that are both rapidly revolutionizing the world of education as we know it and opening up opportunities to review and upgrade the role and scope of many of its existing institutions, (as the likeliness that they are going to soon become obsolete and unsustainable, is right in front of anyone's eyes). George Siemens, in his recent Open Letter to Canadian Universities, sums them up well: 1) An Overwhelming Abundance of Information Which Begs To Be OrganizedThe goal is not (and probably it never was) to learn or memorize all of the information available out there. It's just too much even if we focus only on the very essence of it.
