Delta Force 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1st SFOD-D), popularly known as Delta Force, is a U.S. Army component of Joint Special Operations Command. It was formerly listed as the Combat Applications Group (CAG) by the Department of Defense but some claim it has been re-designated the Army Compartmented Elements (ACE). While 1st SFOD-D is administratively supported by USASOC, it falls under the operational control of the Joint Special Operations Command. Delta Force and its Navy counterpart, the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, are the United States military's primary counter-terrorism units. It is often referred to in the U.S. media as a Special Mission Unit.

Although the 1997-2014 Edition of the National Atlas of the United States was retired in September 2014, The National Map recognizes the importance of continuing to make a collection of the small-scale datasets, originally developed for the National Atlas, available to users. Small-scale maps have an advantage over large-scale maps when there is a need to show a large area in a single view. This makes small-scale maps an ideal solution for scientists, decision-makers, and planners needing to provide a geographical context for the research projects. Generally, certain geographical and feature details found in large-scale maps are limited or omitted in small-scale maps. The choice of small-scale maps always comes down to the intended use of the final map.
Kim Dotcom Makes Another Plea For Legal Relief As U.S., UK, Canada Attorneys General Converge Down Under Kim Dotcom and his legal team are seizing the moment of a meeting of attorneys general from the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand in Auckland to bring more attention to his legal fight with the U.S. government, which wants to extradite Dotcom from New Zealand and try him for copyright violations related to his now-defunct Megaupload venture. Robert Amsterdam, a high-profile lawyer known for human rights cases and the legal defense of political and business leaders who was appointed in January to help Dotcom’s case, has also now published a white paper detailing his take on Dotcom’s legal position. But while Dotcom’s legal team attempts to take a higher ground, Dotcom is also taking a no-holds-barred approach as well. As Reuters reports, Dotcom is offering a prize of $500 the best film of the U.S. Attorney General, Eric Holder, while his Dotcom’s own Megaupload theme song plays in the background.
British Secret Service - The Rainbow scheme Elizabeth I, Queen of England - The "Rainbow" portrait (Stevan Dedijer) Introduction I propose here that the "Rainbow" portrait of Elisabeth I at Cecils' Hatfield House in England is a statement of an Elisabethan "grand scheme" probably conceived and commissioned around 1600 by cousins Francis Bacon and Robert Cecil with the knowledge and participation of the Queen herself. For her portraits were a state matter of politicalimportance in which she had the final word. The scheme is a statement in the policy debate going on in England after the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588.
- Jerusalem Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem, Israel (Enlarge) Jerusalem, by virtue of the number and diversity of people who have held it sacred, may be considered the most holy city in the world. To the Jewish people it is Ir Ha-Kodesh (the Holy City), the Biblical Zion, the City of David, the site of Solomon's Temple, and the eternal capital of the Israelite nation. To Christians it is where the young Jesus impressed the sages at the Jewish Temple, where he spent the last days of his ministry, and where the Last Supper, the Crucifixion and the Resurrection took place.
Looking back, ahead at federal taxing, spending Looking back, ahead at federal taxing, spending By John Waggoner, Julia Schmalz, Joshua Hatch and William Couch, USA TODAY This tax calculator will give you a rough idea of your federal tax bill — and where your tax money went — from 1940 through 2010. Caveats: The calculator is for a taxpayer who files individually, uses the standard deduction instead of itemizing, and has one exemption. The calculator also figures your Social Security and Medicare taxes. We've adjusted all figures for inflation, using the consumer price index. DARPA combines human brains and 120-megapixel cameras to create the ultimate military threat detection system After more than four years of research, DARPA has created a system that successfully combines soldiers, EEG brainwave scanners, 120-megapixel cameras, and multiple computers running cognitive visual processing algorithms into a cybernetic hivemind. Called the Cognitive Technology Threat Warning System (CT2WS), it will be used in a combat setting to significantly improve the US Army’s threat detection capabilities. There are two discrete parts to the system: The 120-megapixel camera, which is tripod-mounted and looks over the battlefield (pictured below); and the computer system, where a soldier sits in front of a computer monitor with an EEG strapped to his head (pictured above). Images from the camera are fed into the computer system, which runs cognitive visual processing algorithms to detect possible threats (enemy combatants, sniper nests, IEDs).
Robots Could Be The Future Of Prostitution April 21, 2012 Lee Rannals for RedOrbit.com Researchers believe that one day prostitutes might lose their grip on the underground sex realm to robots. The slutty robots would become the apple of the eye for those wanting to partake in the sex-for-profit industry in 2050, according to Australian researchers Ian Yeoman, management professor, and Michelle Mars, sexologist. They wrote in a journal called Futures that they envision an Amsterdam sex club called “Yub-Yum” that is littered with robot women, who will be “sexual gods and goddesses of different ethnicities, body shapes, ages, languages and sexual features.” “It is modern and gleaming with about 100 scantily clad blonde and brunettes parading around in exotic G-strings and lingerie,” the researchers wrote.
Quantum mechanics Wavefunctions of the electron in a hydrogen atom at different energy levels. Quantum mechanics cannot predict the exact location of a particle in space, only the probability of finding it at different locations. The brighter areas represent a higher probability of finding the electron. Quantum mechanics (QM; also known as quantum physics, quantum theory, the wave mechanical model, or matrix mechanics), including quantum field theory, is a fundamental theory in physics which describes nature at the smallest scales of atoms and subatomic particles. Quantum mechanics gradually arose from theories to explain observations which could not be reconciled with classical physics, such as Max Planck's solution in 1900 to the black-body radiation problem, and from the correspondence between energy and frequency in Albert Einstein's 1905 paper which explained the photoelectric effect.
DEF CON uninvites Feds after NSA PRISM backlash Organizers of DEF CON 2013, the annual hacking convention, have told the US federal government not to attend, after revelations about the NSA PRISM program and other surveillance activities have left the security community wary of the feds. In a post on the conference's homepage, DEF CON founder Jeff Moss (aka "The Dark Tangent") said that, while traditionally DEF CON has been open to a low-key federal presence, this year the various agencies should sit the show out. "This will give everybody time to think about how we got here, and what comes next" Moss suggests. The decision to uninvite - even if the invitation was only ever implied - the US government is a marked turnaround from previous years at DEF CON.
Wormhole 'no use' for time travel For budding time travellers, the future (or should that be the past?) is starting to look bleak. Hypothetical tunnels called wormholes once looked like the best bet for constructing a real time machine. These cosmic shortcuts, which link one point in the Universe to another, are favoured by science fiction writers as a means both of explaining time travel and of circumventing the limitations imposed by the speed of light. The concept of wormholes will be familiar to anyone who has watched the TV programmes Farscape, Stargate SG1 and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Hacking Knowledge: 77 Ways to Learn Faster, Deeper, and Better If someone granted you one wish, what do you imagine you would want out of life that you haven’t gotten yet? For many people, it would be self-improvement and knowledge. Newcounter knowledge is the backbone of society’s progress. Great thinkers such as Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Edison, Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein, and others’ quests for knowledge have led society to many of the marvels we enjoy today. Your quest for knowledge doesn’t have to be as Earth-changing as Einstein’s, but it can be an important part of your life, leading to a new job, better pay, a new hobby, or simply knowledge for knowledge’s sake — whatever is important to you as an end goal.
» 7 Little Habits That Can Change Your Life, and How to Form Them “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” – Aristotle Post written by Leo Babauta. Follow me on Twitter. If you could just pick one or two (or seven) habits to create in the next few months — habits that will have the most impact on your life — what would they be? I often get asked this question, because people are overwhelmed when it comes to starting positive life changes.
