Noosphere II Introduction What is the Noosphere? The noosphere is the planetary sphere of mind or thinking layer of planet Earth. To grasp the idea of the noosphere we must elevate our consciousness and open ourselves to the most general, elemental and cosmic principles of life on Earth. Manifesto for the Noosphere: The Next Stage in the Evolution of Human Consciousness by José Argüelles As the mental sheathe of the planet, the noosphere characterizes mind and consciousness as a unitary phenomenon. This means that the quality and nature of our individual and collective thoughts directly effects the noosphere and creates the quality of our environment—the biosphere.
Omega Point The Omega Point is the purported maximum level of complexity and consciousness towards which some theorize the universe is evolving. The term was coined by the French Jesuit Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881–1955). According to Teilhard the universe is constantly evolving towards higher levels of material complexity and consciousness, a hypothesis that Teilhard called the Law of Complexity/Consciousness. Teilhard postulates this process results in an absolute, completed whole, which in his view is the actual cause of our Universe's increasing development.
Alpha Personal Analytics for Facebook—Wolfram Note added: Since this blog was written, Facebook has modified their API to make much less information available about Facebook friends. While I think adding privacy controls is a good idea, what Facebook has done reduces the richness of the results that Wolfram|Alpha Personal Analytics can give for Facebook users. After I wrote about doing personal analytics with data I’ve collected about myself, many people asked how they could do similar things themselves. Now of course most people haven’t been doing the kind of data collecting that I’ve been doing for the past couple of decades.

Law of Complexity/Consciousness The Law of Complexity/Consciousness is the postulated tendency of matter to become more complex over time and at the same time to become more conscious. The law was first formulated by Jesuit priest and paleontologist Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. Teilhard holds that at all times and everywhere, matter is endeavoring to complexify upon itself, as observed in the evolutionary history of the Earth. Matter complexified from inanimate matter, to plant life, to animal life, to human life.
Noos This article is about a philosophical term. For the philosophy journal, see Noûs. In philosophy, common English translations include "understanding" and "mind"; or sometimes "thought" or "reason" (in the sense of that which reasons, not the activity of reasoning). It is also often described as something equivalent to perception except that it works within the mind ("the mind's eye"). It has been suggested that the basic meaning is something like "awareness". In colloquial British English, nous also denotes "good sense", which is close to one everyday meaning it had in Ancient Greece. This diagram shows the medieval understanding of spheres of the cosmos, derived from Aristotle, and as per the standard explanation by Ptolemy.
