The Life-Changing Loaf of Bread - My New Roots

The Life-Changing Loaf of Bread - My New Roots
It took me a long time to settle on the title for this post. Why? Because it’s quite a statement to suggest that a humble loaf of bread will change your life. I am willing to be so bold. When I began eating healthier, bread was definitely on my hit list. Not because bread is inherently “bad” (in my books nothing is that black and white), but that I knew when I was basing three meals a day around a loaf of crusty, white French loaf, something had to give. Now, that isn’t to say that my love affair with bread ended there. People often ask me why I don’t bake my own bread, and the answer is simple: the Danes just do it better. It wasn’t until I went for lunch at a friend’s place a couple weeks ago that my life changed. Friendly Fiber: Psyllium Seed HusksYou’re probably asking yourself how the heck this bread holds itself together without any flour. Psyllium seed husks are one of nature’s most absorbent fibers, able to suck up over ten times their weight in water. Third. Directions: 1. 1.

Itty Bitty Garlic Pumpkin Knots I think I caught the bread making bug. And I like it. For years, I was scared of baking bread. I had a horrifying experience trying to make 100% whole grain spelt bread that came out flat as a pancake. I didn’t think I would ever recover from that and I assumed that I just wasn’t bread baker material. This week I realized that while there are some rules that you need to follow, it really isn’t that hard at all! Sesame Banana Bread Recipe I brought this twist on banana bread on our ill-fated camping trip. I imagined a slice of it would be perfect mid-hike, preferably somewhere near an alpine lake. We have an endless amount of toasted sesame seeds around the house (jars, bags, bins), because Wayne bakes the sesame version of the Tartine country loaf a couple times a week. I was set on the idea of banana bread for the hike, and it occurred to me that a sesame banana bread might be something worth trying, with a tangy lemon icing that cuts. And the way I imagined it, this loaf wouldn't have just a sprinkling of sesame seeds, it would be sesame madness.

The Life Changing Crackers - My New Roots The funny thing about writing a blog, is that I never know how popular my recipes will be. Often, I think I have a real zinger and no one really seems to appreciate it on the same level as I do. Then I post something rather simple and everyone goes nuts about it. Cauliflower Pizza Crust with Roasted Vegetables and Goat Cheese - Domesticate ME! Like most normal humans, I love pizza. As a small child, my pizza fetish (coupled with my grilled cheese addiction) led to such high cholesterol levels that my pediatrician actually forced my parents to limit my consumption. In order to avoid a very tiny grave, I was only allowed to eat pizza every other week for an entire year. Needless to say, 1993 sucked. For the record, my cholesterol levels are now perfect (thank you very much), and pizza remains my favorite food. When it comes to late night, hangovers, and No-Calorie Sundays, pizza has been, and always will be, my best friend.

How to Make Vegan Butter - Regular Vegan Butter - Coconut Oil Base - Recipes, desserts and tips - Veganbaking.net Butter is one of those ingredients that can be so central to baking that as soon as some people hear the term vegan baking they wonder aloud almost in a panic, “what about the butter?!” Many vegan baked items get along great with fats like canola, coconut oil or even olive oil. These types of fats work wonders for cakes, cookies, bars and breads. When designing recipes where we need something to act like butter, things start to get complicated. Solid fats like butter and margarine are integral to things like puff pastry, pie crust, shortbread, croissants, danish dough and certain cakes. This is because in these cases the fat is used to coat the flour so gluten doesn't develop too much and also trap air bubbles to enhance leavening and texture.

Whole Wheat Pitas, Made at Home Every week, a DIY expert spares us a trip to the grocery store and shows us how to make small batches of great foods at home. Today, Becky Rosenthal of Vintage Mixer shares a whole wheat pita recipe that's bound to please the whole family. There’s just something about making something completely from scratch that indescribably satisfies the at-home chef. While I've made my share of kitchen disasters, what keeps me cooking is the prideful moments of success -- like when I made homemade cannoli for the first time, or when a friend and I created our own Limoncello from scratch. Making your own bread definitely creates one of those moments in the kitchen when you really feel like you've accomplished something great. Pita bread is the perfect start in homemade bread-making.

Neuroscientists uncover brain abnormalities responsible for tinnitus and chronic pain WASHINGTON -- Neuroscientists at Georgetown University Medical Center and Germany's Technische Universität München have uncovered the brain malady responsible for tinnitus and for chronic pain -- the uncomfortable, sometimes agonizing sensations that persist long after an initial injury. In the October issue of Trends in Cognitive Sciences, researchers say identifying the problem is the first step to developing effective therapies for these disorders, which afflict millions of people. None now exist. The scientists describe how the neural mechanisms that normally "gate" or control noise and pain signals can become dysfunctional, leading to a chronic perception of these sensations. They traced the flow of these signals through the brain and showed where "circuit breakers" should be working -- but aren't.
