Lens Filters Explained Lens Filters can be used for a number of different reasons such as reducing the light entering the lens allowing the shutter to stay open longer for slow shutter speed effects, adjusting the strength of reflections on the surface of water or simply adding more colour to an image. ND (Neutral Density) Filter ND filters reduce the amount of light and colours that enter the lens in equal amounts giving you a greater choice of aperture and shutter speed. This is particularly useful when trying to achieve slow shutter speed effects during the day or in lighter conditions as the shutter speed can be slowed without over exposing the image. ND filters can be obtained in a number of different ’strengths’ for use in different conditions. ND filters can also be graduated and used for conditions where part of the scene is brighter than others. IR (Infrared) Filter An IR filter will block visible light and only allow infrared light to pass through to the camera lens. By: Werner Kunz (werkunz1)

The marriage lasted for 18 years, during which she is remembered for her Christian values as a model wife and mother who made efforts to convert her husband from his abusive behavior. Upon the murder of her husband by another feuding family, she sought to dissuade her sons from revenge before their calamitous death. She subsequently joined an Augustinian community of religious sisters , where she was known both for practicing mortification of the flesh [ 1 ] and for the apparent efficacy of her prayers. The short version is that the pinhole on that camera is not perpendicular to the film for the long version [OpenGeekWindow] You know this problem all to well from digital point and shoots. The aspect ratio on a regular point&shoot is 3:4 and the standard for printing pictures is 2:3, so you have to ask your printer (hey, anyone here still prints?) Now, a similar problem exists when shooting films of one aspect ratio with lenses built for a different aspect ratio. Of course, if you wanted to play back those anamorphic images you would need a killer projector like this $10,999.99 monster from Marants[/CloseGeekWindow] In this tutorial Costas Kaounas will show you how to build an Anamorphic (or rather semi anamorphic) pinhole camera. Step 1 – Prepare The Parts First draw the planes t1, t2 & t3 on 3mm and 1mm cardboard as shown. Step 2 – Putting The Camera Together Sample Images

Build a Tilt-Shift Camera Lens for Peanuts One of the fancier lenses in the world of SLR and digital SLR (DSLR) photography is the tilt-shift lens. You might not know what these lenses look like, but you probably have seen their effects. Architectural photographers use tilt-shift lenses to eliminate the perspective distortions that sometimes give buildings the appearance of falling over. Figure 1. Figure 2. Figure 3. Figure 4. How to Build a Cheap and Simple Variable Neutral Density Filter What is a variable neutral density filter? The neutral density bit means it is a filter simply designed to block some of the light getting into a camera. The variable bit means it is variable – you can control the darkness of the filter just by twisting one part of it. A proper variable neutral density filter can cost £100 or more! Why would you want to block light getting into the camera? In short; control. What effects are possible? The main tricks with a neutral density filter are to get shallow depth of field (a wide aperture) or long motion blur (a long exposure) under bright lighting conditions. How does it work? This method uses the properties of polarised light, specifically that two parallel polarisers will block very little light but two at 90 to each other will block nearly all light travelling through them. Step 1: Raw Materials All you need is two circular polariser filters (of the correct size for your lens of course!). Step 2: Disassemble One Filter Step 4: Final Assembly

White Balance | Understanding White Balance in Digital Photography Color Temperature To understand the concept of White Balance, you need to first understand the concept of color temperature. Color temperature is a characteristic of visible light. It provides a method of describing these characteristics and is measured in Kelvin (K). How does the Light Affect the Color? You must have noticed some photos turn out with an orange/yellow cast if shot under tungsten lighting or a bluish cast if shot under fluorescent lights. Why to Adjust the White Balance? Since different sources of light have different color hues, a picture taken with a normal white balance under artificial lighting conditions transmits the low heat to the camera’s sensor. Preset White Balance Settings Auto – The Auto setting helps in adjusting the white balance automatically according to the different lighting conditions, but you can try other modes to get better results. Tungsten – This mode is used for light under a little bulb like tungsten, and it is often used while shooting indoors.

10 Embarrassing Mistakes I Made As A Beginner Photographer 1.1K Flares1.1K Flares × When I first bought my camera, I read the manual straight away; I used to take it on photo walks and read it before bed. This wasn’t really like me, but I knew I wanted to become good at photography and to do so, I was going to have to learn. There is now a sequel to this post! I NEVER Used Flash If you play around with your pop-up flash, you can see why I made this choice, and whenever anyone asked, my reasoning was ‘I don’t like flash’. Constantly On The Wrong Focus Mode A lot of the time when you’re taking a photo of something that is happening right in front of you, time is of the essence and one thing you can’t fix in post production is your focus. The Wrong ISO I had 2 problems with ISO, firstly, I knew what the ISO did to your photos in terms of quality and wanted nothing to do with it, so I set the ISO to 100 and left it there. Always Shot In JPG I really can’t encourage you enough to switch to shooting in RAW, as it allows you so many more options.

Supercharge Your Camera with Open-Source CHDK Firmware From Wired How-To Wiki An example of the amazing high-speed captures made possible by CHDK firmware. Photo by Keoeeit Digital cameras have powers beyond what is immediately available to the user. On a standard Canon, for example, the fastest shutter speed option offered is 1/1,600 second, but the hardware can handle much more than that -- up to 1/60,000 of a second. CHDK, the Canon Hacker's Development Kit, is an open-source software project that can be loaded on cameras using Canon's DIGIC II or DIGIC III firmware platforms. CHDK does not replace the existing firmware on your Canon, so the process is completely reversible. What You'll Need A compatible camera (see a list) An SD memory card An SD card reader (but see possible workarounds below) How To Install It It's best to start with a blank SD card, so if there are pictures on your card, remove them. There are numerous incarnations of the CHDK software, different builds incorporating different features. Unzip the zip file. How To Use It
