McFancy Last year I was approached by The Cool Hunter to style some photos for a pitch to McDonalds for an upmarket pop-up restaurant for fashion week. The concept was to give McDonalds food a complete makeover and re-brand the fast food giant with an aesthetic suitable for a 5 star restaurant. (Read more about it here). I designed packaging that incorporates familiar high-end fashion branding and worked with photographer Marija Ivkovic to create some wonderful shots! Above are the various concepts we came up with including Paul Smith Sundaes that incorporates a gorgeous cupcake wrapper design by The Cupcake Wrapper Co. Just in case you're interested, the cutlery used in these shots are Seletti disposables that we spray painted white.

New Things at Gallery Nucleus! July 28, 2011 Ok, so the new things that Gallery Nucleus released for San Diego Comic Con are now available online! they are: Artist Book Series + Daily Art And Design Blog And Creative Community I couldn’t help but direct everyone to fellow public art loving blog Street Art Utopia as they have compiled a pretty decent list of the best street art of 2011. If you are just getting into the wonderful world of pasting, spraying or making the streets a more creative place, this list is a great place to start (short of Wall and Piece). One of the best things about this genre is it’s diversity – you can decided what you find gimmicky/twee or meaningful and awe-inspiring.

ART! The other night a few of us painted at an event called “Art After Dark” at the Honolulu Museum of Art. The best part was when this little girl fearlessly walked up on the stage and joined in on the action. Photo by Lucky, he painted the skull. Dream Worlds Revealed On Canvas Along with some magnificent dreams, Jacek Yerka finds inspiration for his masterful paintings from his childhood memories: the places, remembered feelings and smells of 1950′s Poland. He studied fine art and graphic design before becoming a full time artist in 1980… and we’re glad he did. His paintings will take you through incredible worlds of imagination, bending reality in captivating and clever ways fit to inspire a novel or film. See many more examples of his find paintings at yerkaland.com. See Also ENDEARING MONSTER DRAWINGS POP FROM THE SCREEN

Starry Light by Anagraphic The Starry Light, a collection of constellation lamps, comes from a collaboration between graphic designer Anna Farkas, of Anagraphic, and interior designer Miklós Batisz based on Anna’s original idea to have a lamp as a piece of art. The Budapest duo were able to craft a functional light but also one that projects the starry night sky through the holes of the half hemispheric shade. The LED light source emits beams of light up through the drillings and down onto the surface below, both at different strengths. Each Starry Light is made by hand in Budapest and features the celestial constellations of the Northern Hemisphere’s two equinoxes and solstices (you choose) but they are able to make custom constellations on request. The fixture is available in four colors: Matte white, Glossy white, Matte black, and Pearl violet.

Some artists are blue chip, some are underground heroes, others are behind-the-scenes legends. This month, we honor one of the great artists from Los Angeles during our existence, Alexis Ross, who has been monumental in various landmark exhibitions including "Street Market" at Art In the Streets. From working with ESPO, TWIST, and REAS, or working on his own paintings, Ross' story is one of history, frankness, and colorful nostalgia.
