Magazine > Digital Interiors: Pixel Furniture Last month we brought you an article on Japanese designer Kunihiko Morinaga’s pixel-inspired fashion designs, but it seems that the mighty pixel hasn’t limited its sights to the catwalk...they’'re invading your home too. That’s right, MS Paint has come to your living room. These 8-bit inspired furniture designs are the brain-child of Barcelona born London-based designer Cristian Zuzunaga. A graduate of London’s Royal College of Art, Cristian originally began exploring how natural and urban landscapes can be broken down to create unique discharges of colour on a canvas.

IdeaPaint: Turn Your Entire Office Into a Whiteboard Why didn't you think of this? John Goscha, at the ripe old age of 25 ditched a job offer at Goldman Sachs, and instead began marketing IdeaPaint, which is simply a paint that turns any paintable surface into a dry-erase board. The benefit--besides being able to brainstorm on almost every inch of your office--is that the paint is half the cost of whiteboard and better-performing--you can leave marks up indefinitely, and they won't stain the wall. Of course, it takes a bit of time--you may have to sand the wall and prime it--but one other benefit is that you're not incurring all the carbon involved in manufacturing and shipping a whiteboard. End Table MODERNREVISION Time Table Mixer Would that this table were a time table! Oh, but it is. Partially recycled and partially newly made, this table is but a time table, taken here and there from points in design, oh the frankensteining is immense! Designer Jody Racicot uses rich mahogany (just like Ron Burgundy), teak, and ebony in his works, his works which use this old/new method and have most recently burst forth this magical end table.

Fascinating Lamps by Calabarte Calabarte is the pseudonym of a Polish artist named Przemek Krawczynski, whose art takes on a peculiar but incredibly beautiful form: cool lamps. The name itself is a portmanteau of two words – art (obviously), and calabash, the fruit that carries his imagination. The calabash is a bottle gourd originating in India, although Calabarte gets his supply from Senegal. Due to ancient domestication and usage, the bottle gourd has an incredibly tough outer shell.

Lost & Found: Comfy Chair Cushioned with Built-In Storage Lighters, keys, coins … cushioned chairs and couches are notorious for nomming all kinds of things that slip out of our pockets or otherwise get left behind and slide into the cracks. This design simply celebrates that existing phenomena, like a giant-sized pin cushion. It may come as no surprised that this clever-but-boxy furniture piece was developed by architectural designers (of Daisuke Motogi Architecture), who have a knack for exposing and expanding uses for classic furnishing types. Pixel-like pads cover the entire surface of the seat both inside and out, forming slots in which one can accidentally drop a small item or intentionally stick a book, magazine, remote and more. Cleaning this piece would not be trivial, but for those who enjoy the occasional boredom-induced, couch-cushion treasure hunt, who knows what you might find that you or someone else left behind.
