Online | Amazing Banksy painting costume MAKE contributing illustrator Tim Lillis sent me pics of his friend George Schnakenberg‘s Banksy painting costume, and I’m totally having costume envy over here. Hands down my favorite getup from this Halloween. Here’s a comparison pic of George’s costume versus the original Banksy “Flower Thrower” painting: He did an awesome job of painting his clothes to capture the shadows in the original stencil, and getting the flowers just right: Add a little white face paint, and he’s good to go! Check out George’s Flickr stream for pics of his costume on the dancefloor, eating a sandwich, and hanging out with Raggedy Anne. Goli Mohammadi I’m senior editor at MAKE and have worked on MAKE magazine since the first issue. The maker movement provides me with endless inspiration, and I love shining light on the incredible makers in our community. Contact me at goli (at) makermedia (dot) com. Related

THE FIGURE » Ryan Woodward | Thought of You | Official Site So why mix figure drawings in with animation? Figure drawing is a essential practice for any aspiring animator and seasoned animator for that matter. It has been since the first animators began work with Walt Disney and still today, animation studios offer figure drawing workshops in the studio. It’s not so much about the ability to render the figure accurately as it is the continual practice and understanding that there is no “right” way to draw the figure. It’s a creative exploration every time. I like to approach drawing the figure with varying degrees of creativity. Other times, I’ll let my creativity begin to flow by exaggerating the shapes, gesture, and style of the form. Sometimes I’ll even completely disregard “reality” and strive to achieve something unique to my aesthetic senses. Each drawing was done in conte on newsprint using a live model.

Origami Simulator This app uses a compliant dynamic simulation method to solve for the geometry of an origami pattern at a given fold angle. The simulation sets up several types of constraints: distance constraints prevent the sheet from stretching or compressing, face constraints prevent the sheet from shearing, and angular constraints fold or flatten the sheet. Each of these constraints is weighted by a stiffness - the stiffer the constraint, the better it is enforced in the simulation. Axial Stiffness is the stiffness of the distance constraints. Fold and facet stiffnesses correspond to two types of angular constraints. Internally, constraint stiffnesses are scaled by the length of the edge associated with that constraint to determine its geometric stiffness. Since this is a dynamic simulation, vertices of the origami move with some notion of acceleration and velocity. A Numerical Integration technique is used to integrate acceleration into velocity and position for each time step of the simulation.

Of course, Blu's bloated corporate figure sucking the world dry is very topical. Update: the eyes of the fat corporate guy are suspended from the roof, so move in the wind. so good.
