Can Plants Help Indoor Air Quality?

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that levels of indoor air pollutants can be 2-5 times, and occasionally more than 100 times, higher than outdoor levels. So what do you do if you think your home or business may be causing Sick Building Syndrome (SBS)? If there is a possibility that SBS is present, the first step would be to bring in a building specialist to conduct a professional investigation. The building may not be operating in accordance to its original design. The HVAC or ventilation system may not be performing as it was intended. An evaluation of irritants, pollutants and even the humidity level may determine if, alone or in combination, these factors are contributing to or exacerbating the indoor air quality problems. Once the source of the indoor air pollution has been identified and contained, the addition of indoor plants to the office or home could prove beneficial in the prevention of sick building syndrome.

Thyme for Herbs: First Lady Flowers

How many of us vote for the man (or this year - woman) running for president; or do we take into account the rest of the family, such as the devoted wife who will become First Lady, and vote accordingly. And what will happen if Hillary wins the election? Will we have a First Man or a First Gentleman? Since Bill Clinton has already been President, he should be addressed as Mr. President for the rest of his life; therefore, if he ends up being First Husband, will they, as a couple, be introduced as Mr. and Mrs. Untitled. A Garden Full of Beautiful Succulents - Traditional Home® Text by Rebecca Christian Photographs by John Granen Produced by Andrea Caughey Suzy Schaefer has always loved the versatile and colorful succulents that make her San Diego-area garden so arresting--but never more so than in October 2007.

A Garden Full of Beautiful Succulents - Traditional Home®

That's when the Witch Creek Fire, riding on wild Santa Ana winds, raged down a canyon full of eucalyptus and palm trees, forced residents to evacuate, and was finally foiled just six feet short of the handsome Southwestern-style home Suzy and husband Rob had built in 1999. The house across the street was consumed by flames, but Suzy credits the moisture-filled succulents and ground cover she began using instead of grass years ago as nature's fire-fighting heroes.

Souvenir Foto School: Day 10 - Q for Quince

Double win – woohoo! I was in my early twenties and living in California when I discovered quince for the first time. I remember it so clearly (is that weird). On that providential late-Winter day, I decided that it was just warm enough to head out with my daughter for a walk. I bundled her up in her stroller and we set off. Saved by the Southern Belle.
