The Cycles Shader Encyclopedia

You’re not alone. Whilst Cycles Nodes offer almost you limitless control over a materials, many users struggle to understand it’s labyrinth of options. Which is why this article dares to do the impossible: explain every Cycles shader in easy to understand, plain English. Enjoy! -Greg Zaal What it does: Receives light and diffuses it with zero visible reflections. Use it for: Non-reflective surfaces like paper or walls. Properties Roughness You may have played with this obscure little slider and stared at your screen in confusion wondering why nothing is changing. Roughness adds very subtle, microscopic levels of roughness to the surface. Where would you use this? What it does: Reflects lights and the environment Use it for: Adding reflections to any object This very common shader is commonly in combination with the diffuse shader (using the Mix Shader, discussed later) to create some very common materials like plastic, metals, ceramics and wood:

Interview by Learning Three.js: let's talk about 3D

We talked about 3D, made a lot of demo of the platform, the tools we use, we tried to go all through the creation process. It was really nice to share more than 3 years of hard work. The result of this hangout is a more than 1 hour video you can watch below, here is the program: Star Destroyer is coming for you - Blender 2.72. Polystrips Retopology Tool for Blender - v1.0.0. Blender dives into 3D printing industry

LGW spoke to Dolf Veenvliet, Bart Veldhuizen (Shapeways, Blendernation), and Rich Borrett (Ponoko) about the new tools and the future of 3D printing. As one of the impressively fast growing industries, 3D printing is lately all the rage in the press. Let's start with the basics. What do we know about 3D printing anyway? Increasingly affordable (under $1000 now) desktop 3D printers make it possible to turn designs into real plastic or metal objects up to 30cm large in any dimension. Where does Blender fit into this picture? From tinkerers to designers While Blender is still considerably underestimated for use in various commercial scenarios, the adoption goes at an increasing pace, and both the project and the community are, in fact, self-sustaining. Jcfrog : bon, let's go! :) #blender...
