The event of a thread | 2012-2013 Commissioned by Park Avenue Armory Kristy Edmunds, Curator New York, NY December 5, 2012-January 6, 2013 the event of a thread is made of many crossings of the near at hand and the far away: it is a body crossing space, is a writer's hand crossing a sheet of paper, is a voice crossing a room in a paper bag, is a reader crossing with a page and with another reader, is listening crossing with speaking, is an inscription crossing a transmission, is a stylus crossing a groove, is a song crossing species, is the weightlessness of suspension crossing the calling of bell or bellows, is touch being touched in return.
It is a flock of birds and a field of swings in motion. It is a particular point in space at an instant of time. — Ann Hamilton To read the entire statement, click here. Beginning her artistic practice in her native Paris, Louise Bourgeois was originally associated with Surrealism due to her integration of fantastic elements into her prints and sculptures.
Upon moving to New York in 1938, Bourgeois focused primarily on sculpture, crafting biomorphic forms that curator Lucy Lippard has described as enacting the physicality of the body as experienced from within. Marcella Volini. 10 Artists Who Contemporize the Ancient Craft of Embroidery. Embroidery is a timeless craft that transcends cultures and geography, having been found as early as the 30,000 BC in Russia, 3500 BC in China… Although it started as a way to tailor and mend clothing, techniques were developed and opened up the possibilities for decorative stitching.
As time went on, tapestries became increasingly sophisticated and recognized as a form of art. Contemporary embroidery reflects the craft’s rich past, with many artists using ancient approaches to express themselves, their environment, or even commercially—embroidery in illustration is gaining quickly popularity.
It is seriously intense, with their stone-encased applewood burning ovens, exclusive charcuterie, and artisan cheeses. But my fav is their Yukon Gold Potato with Rosemary and Pecorino Romano Pizza. While flights from LA to Seattle aren’t super expensive, making this pizza (or as close to it as possible) is a better alternative. Due to my extreme laziness when it comes to kneading, I turn to Jim Lahey’s genius invention, the No Knead Pizza Dough. It’s foolproof, thank G-d, and makes 2-3 pizzas, which will keep in the fridge for a few days. Littlelimpstiff14u2: The Intricate and Beautiful... - Mintha Mitra. I’ll say! Check out this series of knitted comfort foods that totally gives new meaning to the phrase. As someone who knows how to knit (poorly), I am super impressed with the forms themselves and detailing on items like sausage and bacon. Very neat. Thomas Allen. My career has been marked by a series of firsts—first NY show, first sold-out print, first art fair, first magazine commission, first book cover, first book, first media award, first television appearance, first appearance on the side of a building, first appearance on a rodeo ticket… This is about a recent first that came in the form of an email from AARP (just days before my 50th birthday) that had nothing to do with my impending membership eligibility. It was from Michael Wichita, Interim Director of Photography at AARP Media, inviting me to work on a print and iPad project for AARP Magazine. Seeing this as both ironic and serendipitous, I accepted. Homepage / liliana porter. Art Brussels - Aeroplastics Contemporary. Miranda July: The Future. Peter Callesen.
