Interiors Of Iran’s Mosques Captured In Rare Photographs By Mohammad Domiri

Middle Eastern architecture is often recognized by its elegantly curved arches and spiraling columns, which feature heavily throughout Domiri’s photos. Many of the historic sites Domiri shoots are decorated with colorful stained-glass windows, geometric decorations and painstakingly detailed mosaics, so he shoots with special wide-angle lenses to make sure that he captures all of these details. Because they are historic structures, many of these mosques also impose heavy restrictions on photography – making photos like Domiri’s very rare. Photo book preview.

Incredible Man-Made Tunnels Formed with Wires & Repurposed Wood - My Modern Met

The recently-completed work is his largest to date, and he has successfully created a fully-immersive environment inside of a large, root-like system. Upon entering, you can follow multiple paths that lead you throughout the sculpture while you’re completely surrounded by repurposed wood pieces that are tacked together and resemble bark on a tree. To construct Transarquitetônica, Oliveira first built a skeleton framework and secured the joints with zip ties. Tapumes, which is flimsy wood used in siding, was then layered and applied as the “skin” for the interior and exterior of the work. This makes for an engaging and surreal viewer experience that looks amazing from the outside as branches twist around themselves in addition to the beams that are located inside of the gallery. The History of Visual Communication - Ideograms

Pictography is a form of writing whereby ideas are transmitted through drawing. It is the basis of cuneiform and hieroglyphs. Early written symbols were based on pictograms (pictures which resemble what they signify) and ideograms (pictures which represent ideas). It is commonly believed that pictograms appeared before ideograms. An ideogram or ideograph is a graphical symbol that represents an idea, rather than a group of letters arranged according to the phonemes of a spoken language, as is done in alphabetic languages.

Arkitypo Is A 3D Printed Alphabet Of Historical Typefaces. Ariktypo exhibition slideshow from johnson banks on Vimeo. 3D Printing seems to be constantly in the news lately, with The Pirate Bay recently launching its “Physibles” section dedicated to open-sourcing designs for 3D objects and the world’s first 3D printed jaw being surgically implanted as a replacement jaw for an 83-year-old lady this weekend.

Arkitypo Is A 3D Printed Alphabet Of Historical Typefaces

Elsewhere in the world of 3D prototyping, johnson banks and Ravensbourne art college have produced—another world first? —an alphabet of 3D type. Arkitypo creates 3D sculptures which explore 26 different alphabets, with each letter representing a typeface that begins with that letter. So “A” is Akzidenz Grotesk, an early sans-serif typeface from 1896 and “K”, for instance, is based on a typeface called Kabel, which was named to commemorate the newly completed transatlantic telephone cable in 1927. The idea was to explore and push the boundaries of additive manufacturing, creating ornate, complex designs that test what the technology could do.
