Teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators and others who spend time in the classrooms and hallways of Arizona's schools play a key role in the behavioral health of children. The mix of daily contact, professional training and caring puts educators in position to the be the first to notice changes in a child's behavior that may signal problems stemming from abuse, alcohol use, drug use, depression and other mental health issues.

The lives of students with disabilities and their families are often touched by a multitude of services throughout their lifetime. As adolescents with disabilities make the transition from school to adult life, a new array of services and programs become available to support them. The Emerging Adults Initiative (EAI) is a cross-agency initiative aimed at addressing issues that youth and young adults encounter as they transition to adulthood. This initiative will create developmentally appropriate and effective youth guided local systems of care to improve outcomes in the areas of education, employment, housing, mental health and co-occurring disorders and decrease contacts with the juvenile and criminal justice systems.
