Science Hack Day — News A few months ago, we announced an open call for anyone who is interested in organizing a Science Hack Day (anywhere around the planet) to apply to the Science Hack Day Ambassador Program. The program funds 10 soon-to-be organizers to attend the upcoming Science Hack Day San Francisco to experience the event first-hand and connect with other organizers. We're super excited to welcome these 10 science hackers to San Francisco next month. We're also happy to be joined by 2 additional soon-to-be organizers Jun Yin (from San Diego) and Jacob Shiach (from Houston), who are able to make it to the SF event. Interested in collaborating with, attending or supporting one of these Science Hack Days? We've listed each organizer's contact information below.

Business Plan Template Are you interested in starting a business? Creating a business plan is one of the most important steps you will take because the plan serves as your road map for the early years of your business. The business plan generally projects 3-5 years ahead and outlines the route a company intends to take to reach its yearly milestones, including revenue projections. A well thought out plan also helps you to step-back and think objectively about the key elements of your business venture and informs your decision-making on a regular basis. SBA's Business Plan Tool provides you with a step-by-step guide to help you get started. All of your information entered into this tool is 100% secure and can only be viewed by accessing your account using the password you have specified.

Global Entrepreneurship Development Institute Explore the 2014 GEDIndex interactive map Enterprise is a crucial engine of economic growth. Without enterprise and entrepreneurs, there would be little innovation, little productivity growth, and few new jobs. Entrepreneurial success does not take place in a vacuum. Entrepreneurs exist in the context of their particular geography – be that their local, national, or even supranational economy and society. This mix of attitudes, resources, and infrastructure is known as the entrepreneurship ‘ecosystem’.

Music Hack Day NYC Winners: Invisible Instruments, Crowdsourced DJs and More What happens if you take a couple hundred programmers and hackers and fuel them with caffeine, pizza, beer and Wifi for an entire weekend? The Music Hack Day series, which stopped off in New York City this past weekend, attempts to find out. The answer is clear: As they did last time, these music technologists self-organized into groups to build a truly remarkable range of functioning digital music technologies — everything from Valentine’s Day music players that build playlists based on your beloved’s name and interests to an app that plays the ideal music for any group gathered at a venue using FourSquare check-ins. It’s hard to say how long it would take actual companies to conceptualize and build these technologies, but it would surely take longer than one weekend — such is the power of the crowd, especially when that crowd is made up of the talented scientists, engineers and builders who gathered at Manhattan’s General Assembly for Music Hack Day New York.

How to Win a Hackathon - Rummage How to Win a Hackathon For 30 straight hours this weekend, my co-founder, Matt, and I competed in AngelHack (the biggest hackathon in the nation) for $75,000 in prizes, and the potential for recognition of our startup, Rummage. The product we built, SnapStore.me, placed first on the West Coast, and second overall: We wanted to share our experience with other hackers/entrepreneurs, and offer some advice on how to make the most of your next hackathon. Why do a hackthon? First of all, why would you subject yourself to a grueling 30 hrs of work to do a hackathon? Test You Startup Ideas With This Free Validation Board Hailing from the Lean Startup Machine, The Validation Board is a deceptively simple, free tool for testing out your latest startup and product ideas. The board is based on Eric Ries’s Lean Startup methodology, and according to LSM, it was developed by studying the processes of over 500 startups. It’s no secret that most startup ideas could use a bit of polish (at the very least), and so any new tool that helps evolve a young company’s purpose into something just a bit more fool-proof is worth checking out. According to Grace Ng, the VP of Design at LSM, the project’s goal was to “help entrepreneurs all over the world get out of the building and talk to customers.” Ng explains that “so many products fail because they aren’t solving a problem that customers care enough about.”

With the support of the Government of the United Kingdom, the GII 2015 will be launched on 17 September 2015 in London, United Kingdom. The launch will be hosted by Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, and Baroness Neville-Rolfe, UK Minister for Intellectual Property.
