How to Be Awesome The other day I was talking with my friend Phil, a doctoral student in philosophy. Phil is much smarter than me – of that there is no doubt – but he’s struggling with the process of working through a draining series of requirements to receive his terminal degree. A Ph.D. in a field like philosophy usually requires at least 5 years of study beyond the 4-year bachelor’s degree. Some students do it in less time, but many others require six, seven, or even eight years.

Classic Fonts For Contemporary Design Posted on 23'10 Mar Posted on March 23, 2010 Archived under Typography along with 22 JUST™ Creative Comments ‘Typeface: Classic Typography for Contemporary Design‘ is a book that showcases 46 classic fonts, outlining background information on each, along with examples of contemporary designs that utilise each face. It’s my new favourite typographic inspiration book. Apart from the stellar information & examples used inside, what I found made the book such a success (in my eyes) were the fonts chosen to create the book. I wish I had a list such as this when I was back in school. I think all designers should be aware of these 46 fonts:

Stationery, Invitations, Greeting Cards, and Paper Crafts All Things Paper: 20 Unique Projects from Leading Paper Crafters, Artists, and Designers, the new book by Ann Martin, the talented quilling artist and paper enthusiast behind the blog, All Things Paper, is one that I’ve been anticipating. I have to admit that my anticipation was partially self-centered, as one of the projects in the book is my own, and I was so honored when Ann asked me to participate in the project. I knew that she had invited a host of talented paper artists to be part of the book, but I had no idea who or what would be included, so it was very exciting to receive the book and see all of the projects that were chosen. As the title says, the book contains 20 unique projects, and each is featured in one of the book’s four categories: home décor, fashion accessories, jewelry, and correspondence. Each project includes a full list of necessary tools and supplies, as well as a step-by-step tutorial with photos for every step.
