About « bill sharp – paintings When I started this blog I thought I was going to use it as a way of motivating myself to sketch but I’ve found myself drawn back to oil painting. I studied painting and printmaking in college and spent several years working as a studio artist doing expressionist style mixed media and, later, oils and watercolors. I never achieved enough financial success to support my family so I gradually abandoned it as my day job took more of my energy and attention. Though I studied art in college and received a BFA, I never really learned how to paint realistically from life very well. Inspired by the many Drawing and Painting blogs on the web, I’ve been enjoying using this blog to re-teach myself to paint from life. I hope you enjoy what you see here.

Macro Photography and 22 Colorful Example Macro photography is close-up photography. The classical definition is that the image projected on the “film plane” is close to the same size as the subject. Lenses designed for macro are usually at their sharpest at macro focus distances and are not quite as sharp at other focus distances. In recent years, the term macro has been used in marketing material to mean being able to focus on a subject close enough so that when a regular 6×4 inch (15×10 cm) print is made, the image is life-size or larger. With 35mm film this requires a magnification ratio of only approximately 1:4, which demands a lower lens quality than 1:1.

P:R Approved: Igor Kieryluk’s Gotham 1459! Note: In recent years we’ve seen Batman pop up throughout human history, but this arresting rendition by artist Igor Kieryluk takes the cake. Taking the denizens of Gotham City back 553 years and moving them to Europe, Kieryluk gives us a stunning rendition of what the Dark Knight would be if he was actually a knight. – Chris A.
The Art & Artistry of Richard Amsel (1947-1985): Album Covers The Divine Miss M (2) 1972 Acrylic and colored pencils on board 15 x 14 1/2 in. One of Amsel's most famous and popular pieces. One of the challenges I've had with this site is trying to find sharp, high quality images that best represent Amsel's work. Many of the images here were either scans I made myself, or culled from images online...but when I don't have the original art available for comparison, there's a wide margin of error in how the colors are represented.
