Data Exclusive: 75 Percent of Black California Boys Don't Meet State Reading Standards

More than half of black boys scored in the lowest category on the English portion of the test, trailing their female counterparts. The disparity reflects a stubbornly persistent gender gap in reading and writing scores that stretches across ethnic groups. Posted below, the data provide a unique glimpse of how gender interacts with race and class in mastery of basic reading, writing and listening skills tested on state exams. Males have greater g: Sex differences in general mental ability from 100,000 17- to 18-year-olds on the Scholastic Assessment Test. The full article may include the caveat that there was a preselection effect in operation. There are substantially fewer males in the sample. It looks as though fewer males were available at the grade level where the SAT was given. Assuming that the population is about 50% male then a fraction of them were missing. One result could be that the remaining males had to be brighter to make it as far as taking the SAT. This would increase the apparent difference in g. A key question is: What caused them to be screened out before the test-taking level in the educational system? What becomes of them? Note here that the college population is moving toward a ratio of 40/60, male to female. This paper which purports to say something about the difference in intelligence may actually be saying something about some major failure in the educational process -- which is specific for males. – ctwii

Average IQ of students by college major and gender ratio. After all the controversy that arose after I posted my breakdown of college majors by gender last week, I promised myself I’d stay away from controversial gender-related topics for a while.

Average IQ of students by college major and gender ratio

But when I ran across an ETS-curated data set of average student IQs by college major, I couldn’t avoid putting this visualization together. Below, I plotted several college major’s estimated average student IQ over the gender ratio of that major. The result? A shockingly clear correlation: the more female-dominated a college major is, the lower the average IQ of the students studying in the major. A naive reader may look at this graph and conclude that men are smarter than women, but it is vital to note that, on average, men and women have about the same IQ. By popular request, here’s an interactive version of the above chart: Are Women Smart Enough to Be Engineers? Sex Differences in General Intelligence. About a century ago, psychologists found that in mental tests designed to measure only domain-specific abilities (such as mathematical ability or memory), people who did well on one kind of test tended to do well on other tests.

And those who did poorly, did so across the board. From this overlap, or inter-correlation, it was discovered that there exists a ‘general factor’ which powers (nearly) all mental abilities. This general factor is called ‘general mental ability,’ ‘general intelligence,’ or simply, intelligence (abbreviated as g). At its core, g can be thought of as ‘brain power’—an individual’s capacity to process information efficiently. An individual with higher g has more ‘brain power.’ Simply put, intelligence—to a certain extent—determines ‘destiny.’ Height and intelligence - Wikipedia. IQ studies, faulty research and MSM bias. In 2012, there was a short media furor surrounding the scientifically dubious pronouncement that women had, for the first time, ‘overtaken men on IQ tests’.

IQ studies, faulty research and MSM bias

Not only did this claim defy mainstream orthodoxy in the literature, it actually significantly misrepresented the results of the study that it purported to reference. The study in question was one by the controversial psychometrician Jim Flynn, who stated that rather than women having surpassed men on ‘IQ tests,’ they roughly matched them on a single test known as ‘Raven’s Progressive Matrices.’ Something else that the (largely US) media neglected to mention was that the tests were taken in four countries other than the US or Canada. Specifically, they were conducted in Australia, New Zealand, White South Africa, Estonia, and Argentina1 2.

This study was actually something of an outlier among the contemporary psychometric pattern of results: in the words of Dr. To a large degree, cultural narratives shape the society around them. Are Men Really More Intelligent Than Women? Gender differences in intelligence. Recent research has shown that once again more male students at Oxford University were awarded first class degrees than female students.

Gender differences in intelligence

In 2013, male Oxford graduates received more first class degrees in 26 out of the 38 schools in which both genders were examined. Almost a third of male candidates at the University of Oxford were awarded firsts in 2013, compared with just a quarter of female candidates, according to statistics released by the university in 2014. In chemistry and English, two of Oxford’s biggest subjects, the gap is remarkable. Men ARE more brainy than women, says scientist Professor Richard Lynn. Why Men Lie Up and Women Lie Down

Whether in personal ads or in face-to-face conversations, men tend to lie about their earnings and their height. In contrast, women tend to lie about their age and their weight. And both men and women often lie about the number of sexual partners they have had in their lives. On all of these dimensions, men typically lie upwards and women typically lie downwards. Scientific Proof That Public Debate Is Dominated By Stupid People. The chart, created by data scientist Randy Olson in June, shows the average IQ of US college majors in various subjects. The data is plotted against gender too, but we’ll come to that can of worms in a minute. Physics, engineering, philosophy and computer science are the hardest subjects with the smartest students. Social work, health and education scoop up the dregs. (“Gender Studies” doesn’t even make the cut.) But hang on. 14 Facts the 'Women in Tech' Movement Doesn't Want You to Know. And every week we’re told that the reason more women aren’t working in technology is a combination of sexism, outdated social attitudes and stereotypes, historical prejudices and too few educational support programmes for women.

We’re told that women find it more difficult to get jobs and that when they do get jobs they’re subjected to hostile workplaces, sexism and bullying and that they’re paid less than their male counterparts for the same work. We’re invited to believe, contrary to the evidence all around us, that the highly-progressive, socially-conscious and liberal-minded technology industry is in fact one of the most retrograde and oppressive places for women to work. Lean In’s Biggest Hurdle: What Most Moms Want. Academia is replete with efforts to help women advance in their careers by encouraging more equal patterns of male and female parenting and work. Several of these efforts have been striking failures. For example, gender-neutral tenure-extension policies at the nation’s 50 leading economics departments hurt female faculty.

Rather than leveling the playing field, one study by a group of economists found that they “led to a 19 percentage-point rise in the probability that a male economist would earn tenure at his first job. In contrast, women’s chances of gaining tenure fell by 22 percentage points.” The study suggested that many men had used the stopped clock to conduct research, while the women concentrated on parenting duties.

Ignoring the stronger female inclination to nurture seems certain to thwart feminist efforts well beyond academia. New Research on Gender Roles Reveals What We’ve Always Known. April 16, 2017 by Robert Franklin, Esq, Member, National Board of Directors, National Parents Organization A few days ago I reported on Brad Wilcox and Samuel Sturgeon’s piece that dealt, however imperfectly, with recent data showing a continuation of a gradual trend toward traditional sex roles by young millennials.Among other things, I pointed out that, whatever the attitudes of people when they’re young, when it comes to caring for children, their behavior tends strongly to fall into the traditional roles, i.e. mother as caregiver, father as breadwinner. That is, even when 20-somethings espouse egalitarian values, mothers pulling half the load of earning and fathers half the load of childcare, when the first child comes along, they strongly tend to opt out of the brave new world.

For example, gender-neutral tenure-extension policies at the nation’s 50 leading economics departments hurt female faculty. Log In - New York Times. Why Feminist Careerists Neutered Larry Summers. Like religious fundamentalists seeking to stamp out the teaching of evolution, feminists stomped Harvard University President Lawrence Summers for mentioning at a January 14 academic conference the entirely reasonable theory that innate male-female differences might possibly help explain why so many mathematics, engineering, and hard-science faculties remain so heavily male.

Unlike most religious fundamentalists, these feminists were pursuing a careerist, self-serving agenda. This cause can put money in their pockets.
