Seven Speaking Tips That Beat “Pretend Your Audience Is Naked" Aggh. Everyone showed up clothed! Once upon a time, I suffered from glossophobia. This affliction touches billions. I conquered it by discovering what makes people smile, nod, and listen carefully, because nothing calms you down faster than an interested audience. This is what I've learned. Children plea for them at night, and adults crave them, too. They want to be respected. This principle also underlies another rule of effective speaking: Dress like your audience, but just a little bit better." {*style:<i>Don't try to impress them. </i>*} If you truly want to help your listeners--by informing or motivating them, or improving their lives--they will care and listen. This recalls a favorite tip: We mistrust people who won't look us in the eyes--even if our eyes are among over 200 sets in a room. If you look each person in the eye for a few seconds, you make each person feel important--a feeling that every person craves. For this reason, minimize visual aids. . .

1 milla = 1,609 m 1 yarda = 0.915 m 1 pie = 0.305 m 1 pulgada = 0.0254 m

Since the evolutionary goal of each species is to increase its numbers, we might claim that humans have triumphed. We are already on an unsustainable trajectory of deforestation, water pollution and scarcity, depletion of soils, and species loss, and yet we must find even more food, water, and energy to provide for our continually increasing numbers, 97 percent of whom live in developing countries. Today, half the global population lives on $2 a day or less, and the gap between rich and poor is growing. To focus only on the urgent global picture, however, makes the situation feel overwhelming and may prevent us from taking action. Turn Any Yard of Fabric into a Chic Beach Wrap Now that you’ve picked out your perfect grill, it’s time to get yourself to the beach! When we saw this wrap in the latest Victoria’s Secret catalog we knew we had to make it, and we knew we could make it rock. Head to a fabric store or grab a scarf you never wear, and get ready to wrap it up. Materials: – 1 yard of fabric – lace trim, ribbon, shoelaces – sharp fabric scissors – sewing machine or needle and thread First, gather your materials! We employed two different methods for creating our beach dress. Cut a strip off one end of your fabric. Next, fold over the top two corners of your piece of fabric. Now it’s time to string the strip through! Sew the loop ends together and cut off any excess fabric. Repeat with the other side, and you’re done! And here’s how you put it on. Cutie patootie from any angle! We used the same method with this peacock print, but shortened the width of the fabric to create more coverage up top. ;) For our second method, we complemented fabric with lace trim.

How to find true friends (and love) in 45 minutes David Rowan Editor of Wired magazine This article was featured in Times Magazine, 5 November. Can you make someone become intimately close to you -- even fall in love with you -- in less than an hour? Dr Aron -- known to friends as Art -- runs the Interpersonal Relationships Lab at Stony Brook University on the north shore of Long Island, east of New York City, and he has love on his mind. Back in 1997, Aron and colleagues published a paper in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin on "The Experimental Generation of Interpersonal Closeness". They arranged volunteers in pairs, and gave them a list of 36 questions that, one by one, they were both asked to answer openly over an hour "in a kind of sharing game". But would the "fast friends" experiment also work with more worldly senior executives and entrepreneurs? "Take part in a psychological experiment, and make friends fast," I scribbled on the whiteboard where session hosts competed for delegates' attention.
