10 Kick-Ass Secret Passage Bookshelves

10 Kick-Ass Secret Passage Bookshelves
If there’s one dream that unites all bookish folks (aside from, you know, universal literacy) it’s the dream of having a secret passageway hidden behind a bookcase. Ok, maybe it just unites some of us- but there’s no denying that there’s something super-nifty about having a bookcase that moves to reveal a space only you know about. You and your builder. Anywoot! Here’s a roundup of ten of my favorite bookish secret passageways from around the interwebs: Nothing says old money like a piano and a room hidden behind warm wood floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. This kid’s bookshelf opens to a secret reading nook. …Harry, are you in there? A secret passage in a gothic library that opens to reveal…a table for tea? I’ll just be over here, hanging out with ALL THE WHIMSY IN THE WORLD. For the minimalist in the family. Because sometimes you should have to climb a ladder to reach your secret passageway. I feel like this would be in the Beauty and the Beast library. Old school like the old school.

Superhero Bookends That Save Books From Falling Down Created by the imaginative folks at Israeli design studio, Artori Design, are the Book And The Hero, and Supershelf – a pair of bookends that make it appear the books they’re holding are being saved by a small, yet incredibly strong superhero. The illusion is created by the use of strong magnets, and feature a mini magnetized superhero. Witchcraft, in other words. The floating effect on the Book And The Hero bookend, is achieved by laying the books against an angled stand, with one book left open so it covers the bookshelf. Factor in the magnetized witchcraft, and it appears the small cape-wearing hero is holding the books up on his own strength. 30 Design Ideas to Make Your Small Bedroom Look Bigger by Micle Mihai-Cristian interior design By Freshome.com - Interior Design & Architecture Magazine on Oct 30, 2012 If you are looking for inspiration on how to decorate a small bedroom, prepare to be overwhelmed with fantastic ideas.

Coolest Bookshelves EVER: Part Uno We already know what our book piles say about us, but what do our bookshelves say about us? Are we any sort of creative with how we display our books? I certainly am an epic fail in this department. I have one cool bookshelf (made of tree branches), but the rest are straight up and down run-of-the-mill bookshelves. To be honest, I didn’t even know cool bookshelf owners existed – not this cool, at least. The Endangered Bookstores of New York Recently, I was browsing for books at Powerhouse Arena, in Dumbo, and noticed a sign asking people not to snap photos of the books on display. What a thing to have to ask! Here was a bookstore providing shelter, a bit of calm in the city, and tables with chosen, colorful, physical copies of books. And yet people were willing to bypass the ambiance and the expertise with an iPhone snap and an online purchase to be made later. To be in a bookstore is to feel the presence of artistic lives, a devotion to word and image. Bob Eckstein has previously drawn the bookstores of the city, and he returns here with a new set of drawings and stories.

This Incredibly Rare 16th Century Book Opens In 6 Ways To Reveal 6 Different Books This book is old, and by old… I mean 16th century old. Sure, it doesn’t come with all the cool stuff the new Amazon Kindle has, and it can’t hold thousands of books…. but this old book can do something pretty amazing. Printed sometime in the late 16th century, this book from the National Library of Sweden, is what is called a sixfold dos-à-dos binding. Basically, it’s where six books are conjoined into a single publication, and can be read individually with the help of six perfectly placed metal clasps. Each book is held with a metal clasp Unlocking one opens one of the six books
