Playful Resources for Toontastic and TeleStory We use Toontastic to improve students’ reading comprehension by creating animated summaries of the stories they read. It helps them retell, paraphrase, and sequence key events while considering how a character’s point of view shapes narrative. They have a great time and take a lot of pride in seeing their drawings and voices come to life onscreen. To start the activity, we choose a familiar book as a class before dividing up into groups of two or three students.

10 Apps for Documenting Learning One of the things that really excites me about the iPad is the ability of the students to show their learning. I am not talking about the end product here, I am talking about the act of learning that can be shown by students recording their processes. It is often about the student putting the information they have learnt into a context. It is this contextualisation that helps the students create meaning. Here is a perfect example from a young 1st grade student who talks us through his investigation into transport. This example was shown on a recent school visit as one way a student could document their own learning.

If you are thinking in Bloom's Taxonomy terms then I must say that most, if not all, of the apps included in this graphic correspond with the "creation" level in the Bloom's thinking continuum.

November 2012 This year, I have been blessed with a talkative, but sweet group of 28 children! Yes, there are 28 of them! But we are now at the end of our first trimester of Kindergarten, and we have hardly had any fist fights, pushing, or kicking, etc. We have had some other small problems- especially with children forgetting to raise their hands before talking, a little bit of mischief and silliness here and there, but hardly any problems with fighting! I am not entirely sure if this is just a result of luck or pure coincidence that we have not had too many problems of this nature as compared to past years, but I would like to tell you what I am doing differently this year and you then can judge for yourself.
