National Film and Television School - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Film and Television School (NFTS) was established in 1971 and is based at Beaconsfield Studios in Beaconsfield , Buckinghamshire , and it is located close to Pinewood Studios . The National Film School (the original name) opened in 1971, the work of four years of planning to create an institution to train personnel for the British film industry. Department of Education and Science had in 1967 recommended the creation of a national film school for the UK, and in 1969 an inquiry led by Lord Lloyd of Hampstead began to develop plans. In 1970, a Scot named Colin Young (then chairing the University of California 's Department of Theater Arts), was appointed as the School's first director. The NFS bought the old Beaconsfield Film Studios in Buckinghamshire and set about refitting it to professional industry standards.

Welcome to the Conference of Drama Schools

The Conference of Drama Schools comprises Britain’s 22 leading Drama Schools. CDS exists in order to strengthen the voice of the member schools, to set and maintain the highest standards of training within the vocational drama sector, and to make it easier for prospective students to understand the range of courses on offer and the application process. Founded in 1969, the 22 member schools offer courses in Acting, Musical Theatre, Directing and Technical Theatre training. Graduates of CDS courses are currently working on stage, in front of the camera and behind the scenes in theatres and studios across Britain. CDS members offer courses that are:

MA Filmmaking and MA Screenwriting courses at London Film School.

Since 1956 the school has trained thousands of directors, cinematographers, editors and other film professionals now working across the globe. It is the most truly international school anywhere, with 70% of its students from outside Britain. This diversity fits very well in the melting pot of London.

National Film and Television School

NFTS graduates become highly successful film and television programme makers and many make important contributions to film and programme-making practice in their respective fields. Some will find fresh and imaginative ways to tell stories. Others will go on to instigate innovative formats, while yet others will develop new ways to apply the technology. To set them on that path, all our courses are intensely practical. Little time is spent in conventional seminar rooms. Theory is put directly into practice in the studios and workshops, so that students learn by applying their developing knowledge in real filmmaking situations.
