Butterflies, flowers, and rainbows will brighten up your home when spring seems to be taking its good old time. Spring is the perfect season to talk about science with your preschooler. He'll love to watch as plants grow, birds return, and the weather changes. Preschool crafts with a spring theme are a great way to introduce and talk about these concepts. But, I have to admit that I’ve been finding myself in serious need of inspiration and a little artistic freedom that the dining room table just isn’t currently capable of offering. So, our daughter and I have been hitting Becky Wortman’s Creative Exploration process art class in Cumberland the last few weeks, having an amazing time getting our hands dirty and trying out all of the cool projects Becky has for families. Last Thursday was all about paint and the different ways to make art (spray bottles, marbles, food colouring and more). One of the faves of our day was the whirling colours from salad spinning painting. Becky graciously agreed to share the good times with a fun tutorial. This week we made “paint dough”. Put paper with 2 or 3 blobs of different colored paint on it, into box. Place magnet balls, paper clips, and other metal items in box. Have child swipe a bar magnet under the box. This will move the items and thus the paint in the box. They will be amazed that they are painting with no brushes! At the end of the year, we plan on having an art show for the parents.

Using watercolor paper and a white crayon, draw simple pictures onto the paper. A quick art project for any age. We worked on sketching and sculpting one summer so we turned our art into a museum. We love to paint in my classroom and to add a new spin on painting line the bottom of your water table with paper and take magnetic marbles dipped in different colors of paint and put them in there. This is an idea to help the children to not suck up the bubble paint or bubble solution. Shake lightly.
