Google+ Upcycling: Magazine Beads When I was a child, making paper beads from the stacks of National Geographic was one of my favorite indoor pastimes. And I’m not the only one. The creation of beads from colorful paper goes back to Victorian times when ladies used knitting needles and paper scraps to create beads for decorations around their homes. The Pinhegg – My Journey To Build An Egg Pinhole Camera Since I started pin-holing the world, I have had the strong desire to make a special camera, with the purpose of shooting just one photograph. The purpose was to sacrifice the camera in the process of photo creation – I wanted the camera to become the photograph. To let you understand, the process from the camera to the photograph is the same that ties the baby bird to the egg: the bird grows protected from the shell and when it's ready breaks it and comes out. About Ars Electronica What is Ars Electronica? Art, technology, society. Since 1979, Ars Electronica has sought out interlinkages and congruities, causes and effects. Videos Straight-away I was reminded of Jake Fried, but only in materials/process. It’s clear that Emanuele is also intuitively fleshing out the movement frame-by-frame as he goes but his work is unique in that there’s no figurative elements to recognize; only abstract geometry and form that, when quilted together, comes across as both familiar and foreign. I’m reminded of the notebooks I used to fill with random scribbles while bored out of my mind in high school: I’d start with a stray line or a random shape and then try to make sense of it with the remaining paper, as if the choatic mess left by my pen was what I had intended to create from the beginning. It was a way to pass the time and entertain myself instead of blankly staring at the clock, fantasizing about the bell that would eventually set me free.
