Gift Ideas for Poor Creative Souls (13)

Posted by: Cathy on Jun 11, 2012 Tagged in: Untagged Painting stones has to be one of the cheapest forms of art and a wonderful way to give someone an inexpensive but thoughtful gift. I have collated a great selection here which I hope you will like and will feel inspired by. Painted stones also make great paper weights or you could use them as place settings for a wedding party. All you need to do is collect a few pebbles, get out your acrylic paints and then varnish your stones to protect them. Have fun! For tutorials on how to market yourself online, please go here

Haunted House Silhouettes With some jobs, when you’re burned out it’s best to take a break, to get away from the office and focus on something else. With creativity, however, I’ve found the opposite helps: for me the only cure for burnout is more challenges rather than fewer. One such challenge came my way a few years ago, when I had an opportunity to decorate an entire house for Halloween. The homeowner had a strict $100 budget and insisted that nothing be attached to the house in a manner that would damage the exterior shingles. The place was newly purchased, and the homeowner had yet to install any window treatments beyond inexpensive paper "contractor blinds" on all of the windows. How to make an easy and stylish paint chip mobile for your nursery Supplies: Wooden knitting ring Assorted paint chip samples in colors of your choosing Spray adhesive (optional) Circle punch Sewing machine Tape Punch out piles of circles from your paint chips samples. I had about 20 circles in each of the 5 colors. Paint chips are one-sided so you’ll have to either glue two together or sew them together when you’re making your strings of circles.

Design Seeds&: For All Who Love Color #ededed #e8dcca #b08a61 Jeppe Hein's Quirky 'Social Benches' are Interactive Sculptures That Engage the Public Jeppe Hein has re-imagined the average public bench by creating a series of modified benches that open up discussion about social behavior in urban spaces. The Danish artist took the form of a typical bench and adapted it in different ways, using raised platforms or diagonal sections to alter the staid seat’s function. Installed in the seaside Belgian town of De Haan, the benches turned sitting into a conscious task. Their finished forms lie somewhere between dysfunctional objects and works of art.

Hanging Chains Headband DIY While browsing Topshop last week, I came across this fun hanging chains headband and thought with Coachella right around the corner, an easy DIY for something similar would be fun. I used an old plastic zig zag stretchy comb headband I’ve had for years because it was the most logical choice to hang chains from but you can use an elastic band in a similar way. The chains disappear a little in my blonde hair but they would stand out really pretty agains brunette locks {it would also look great on a shorter cut as well}. If you’re super crafty, add a feather or bead/charm to the bottom of a few chains. What You’ll Need…

How to Turn Old Magazines into a Bookshelf The magazines you’ve read through can be turned into extra storage space for the home in a few easy steps. Magazines can be thick, but individually, the floppy, thin pages seem like the last material you would use to build a sturdy bookshelf. To everyone’s surprise, Sean Miller did the unthinkable and crafted a bookshelf from 80 National Geographic magazines and was named one of 23 finalists in Inhabitat’s Spring Greening Contest . Make Typographic Gift Wrap & Man Made DIY This year, I vowed to only make or buy handmade holiday gifts for my friends and family, and I've kept to it so far. But wrapping these gifts in commercial paper didn't seem to make much sense, so I wanted to create some handmade gift wrap to match. I happen to think a gift wrapped in newsprint is actually quite attractive, and love the look of text on a package, but wanted to put in a little more effort. So I came up with a cool option that's clean, masculine, and maintains the typographic look of the newsprint. Plus, it eliminates the need for any "to:/from" tags, as the recipient's name is right there in tasteful type.

Arrow bracelet - #2 Friendship Bracelet Tutorial After you've done a few successful strip bracelets (pattern 1), you're ready to do the arrow one (chevron, #2). For this bracelet you need to know both forward and backward knots. When you're doing the arrow bracelet, you need two strings of each colour. That means that when you're doing a bracelet from eight strings, you need four colours. You are working from both sides with two string of the same colour, which are then tied together in the middle to create a 'V' or an arrow. The strings should be the same length as while doing the striped bracelet (1 metre).
