During the day he works as an illustrator, writer and conceptual designer for Weta Workshop and has designed for the motion pictures: District 9, King Kong, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and Black Sheep amongst many, many others. Amy Casey New work from Cleveland-based artist Amy Casey who paints delicate networks of roped and towering cityscapes. Casey currently has a show at Zg Gallery in Chicago through August 6. I definitely intend on stopping by. You can see much larger and detailed versions of these paintings here. The Art of Dave McClellan Last weekend I was able to go on a painting/sketching/reference gathering trip with some BYU illustration and animation students and faculty to Zion National Park. They are doing a student project on environment design and will be using the sketches and reference they gathered for their designs. Since that's kind of what I do for a living I got to come along.
Martin Wittig Well, I am finally back from my Greece/ Russia trip. I had an AWESOME time!!! Greece was just plain beautiful, and Russia was exciting as well. James Charles – Pop Cultured Currency Repurposing existing objects for other uses is always cool. Repurposing them for pop culture references though is even better. James Charles has been doing just that with United States currency for the last year or so. Many more after the jump. The Bantha wich appeared in the first Star Wars movie, A New Hope, was played by an female Asian elephant in a large custom made costume. However, during shooting the elephant would frequently take off the costume because it wasn't accustom to the extra warmth generated from wearing it in the California heat. The same elephant was used as reference by ILM when they were working out the locomotion of the Imperial walkers.
