Natural Pools or Swimming Ponds Natural Pools or Natural Swimming Ponds (NSPs) Let nature clean the water... Chemical-free water garden and swimming pool. The plant portion, or regeneration zone, is separated from the swimming area by the wall seen a few inches below the water’s surface. www.naturalswimmingpools.com The pools have skimmers and pumps that circulate the water through the regeneration zone and back into the swimming area. Then rocks, such as granite river rock or haydite, to which friendly bacteria attach, act as biological filters.

Written by Thomas Baekdal | Tuesday, December 16, 2008 Hardwood Floors Follow Trees' Natural Shape, Getting More From Less "Life is not a straight line," says Bolefloor's website. Cheesy, yes, but also true -- literally: trees don't naturally grow in ruler-straight lines, so why should the wooden floorboards that we hew out of them? Slashing all the natural curves, knots, and imperfections out of the wood means waste; Bolefloor uses custom software to scan the wood and take its natural forms into account when cutting the boards. Which means, in Bolefloor's words, "more floors per forest." Plus, they look amazing:

How to Update a Hand Me Down Dresser I love gift-wrap and I also love anything and everything having to do with typefaces. So it is no surprise to me that I have had my eye on this vintage typographer gift-wrap ever since Emily over at Jones Design Company posted about it as well as many other pretty papers she uses. I wanted to find a way I could use this gift-wrap where I could enjoy the pattern in my daily life instead of only wrapping gifts with it and giving it away. When I started to update my guest room I got an idea on how I could incorporate it into the room. The gift-wrap comes in 20” x 28” sheets that cost $4.00 each. Rolling Bridge « Heatherwick Studio London, UK The studio was commissioned to design a pedestrian bridge to span an inlet of the Grand Union Canal at Paddington Basin, London, and provide an access route for workers and residents. Crucially, the bridge needed to open to allow access for the boat moored in the inlet. The aim was to make the movement the extraordinary aspect of the bridge. A common approach to designing opening bridges is to have a single rigid element that fractures and lifts out of the way. Rolling Bridge opens by slowly and smoothly curling until it transforms from a conventional, straight bridge, into a circular sculpture which sits on the bank of the canal.
