Firming Up the Foundations of Neuromarketing: A Review of Thomas Zoëga Ramsøy's Introduction to Neuromarketing and Consumer Neuroscience

Don’t have a Kindle? Download the Kindle Reader for your device now! Editor’s Note: Dr. By Steve Genco Thomas Ramsøy is unusual in the neuromarketing community in that he is both the CEO of a commercial research company, Neurons Inc., and also a full-time faculty member with expertise in both neuroscience and marketing.

So it was with great anticipation that I awaited my preview copy of Dr. Before summarizing the content of INCN, I want to emphasize, and applaud, a very important point made in the last chapter. Ramsøy does much to further this goal of “academic neuromarketing” in INCN. Like this: Like Loading... Neuromarketing in Korea - Neuromarketing. Neuromarketing in Korea - Neuromarketing

The article describes use of fMRI scans to aid the product development process: Koreas largest cosmetics company Amorepacific asked Prof. Sung Young-shin, who teaches consumer and advertising psychology at Korea University, to conduct a study on customers recognition of its brands last year. Sungs team photographed the brain of female college students with fMRI devices while showing them ads and products of Amorepacific and famous foreign cosmetics brands.

The tests revealed that the students heard about Hera and Iope, two leading Amorepacific brands, but were not well acquainted with them. It’s not quite clear how the original scans determined lack of brand familiarity, or how novel square packaging would address that issue. The Neuroethics Blog: Media and social stigma can influence the patient adaptation to neurotechnologies and DBS

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is one of the oldest neuromodulation techniques; it was approved by the FDA in 1997 for the treatment of essential tremor, and a few years later, in 2002, the indication was extended to the treatment of Parkinson’s disease and dystonia (in 2003). In 2009 a new era for DBS started when the FDA also approved it as a therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder. Some patients experienced a very good outcome, while others were less lucky and experienced side effects such as cognitive, behavioral or psychosocial impairments.

DBS is now a common procedure for the treatment of many motor and behavioral impairments. The establishment of common criteria for patient selection in DBS is one of the main issues debated by the scientific community. References.
