He was well known for his unique style of drip painting. During his lifetime, Pollock enjoyed considerable fame and notoriety, a major artist of his generation. Regarded as reclusive, he had a volatile personality, and struggled with alcoholism for most of his life. In 1945, he married the artist Lee Krasner, who became an important influence on his career and on his legacy.[1] Pollock died at the age of 44 in an alcohol-related, single-car accident; he was driving.

Early life[edit] Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming, in 1912,[4] the youngest of five sons. While living in Echo Park, California, he enrolled at Los Angeles' Manual Arts High School,[6] from which he was expelled. Trying to deal with his established alcoholism, from 1938 through 1941 Pollock underwent Jungian psychotherapy with Dr. 1950s[edit] Pollock.number-8. Jackson_Pollock. Drop Art. Drop Art

Informed by the "happenings" of Allan Kaprow and the impromptu performances a few years earlier of John Cage, Robert Rauschenberg and Buckminster Fuller at Black Mountain College, Drop Art began when Richert and Bernofsky started painting rocks and dropping them from a loft roof onto the sidewalk of Lawrence Kansas's main drag — watching the reactions of passersby. Early Drop Art included such pieces as Egg Drop and Pendulum (pictured) . Drop Art eventually led to the creation of Drop City, an experimental artist's community founded in 1965 near Trinidad, Colorado.

The intention was to create a live-in work of Drop Art. Is this a Dropping? External links[edit] References[edit] About Drop City. Drop City. For the Australian band Drop City see Matthew J Tow Drop City Drop City was an artists' community that formed in southern Colorado in 1965.

Establishment[edit] In 1965, the four original founders, Gene Bernofsky ("Curly"), JoAnn Bernofsky ("Jo"), Richard Kallweit ("Lard") and Clark Richert ("Clard"), art students and filmmakers from the University of Kansas and University of Colorado, bought[2] a 7-acre (28,000 m2) tract of land about four miles (6 km) North of Trinidad, in southeastern Colorado.

As Drop City gained notoriety in the 1960s underground, people from around the world came to stay and work on the construction projects. The community grew in reputation and size, accelerated by media attention, including news reports on national television networks.
