Most parents try everything they can to make sure their kids eat healthy foods while at home, but what about when they’re at school? Considering that it’s one of the three main meals of the day, what your child has for lunch is a major factor in their development, and can have an effect on both their learning and growth. While it may not seem like we have much control over the types of foods and snacks our children have at school (especially if they attend public school), we recently spoke with Amie Hamlin, Executive Director of the NY Coalition for Healthy School Food, and learned that quite the opposite is true. We also found out more about the Coalition’s involvement in establishing NYC’s first vegetarian school, and how the kids at that school have been faring academically since the change.

Next Big Future: Biochar could boost agricultural yields and control pollution Across the United States, sales of biochar, a long-lasting soil additive, have surged over the past few years. Biochar sales have tripled annually since 2008, according to some estimates. The Biochar Company in Berwyn, Pennsylvania — which supplied Flanner's Brooklyn farm — sells it both wholesale and direct to consumers, through outlets including Amazon and some Whole Foods stores. subjectivity At the moment it comes out of my mouth, I know I've said something that I neither whole heartedly believe in nor fully understand. “Blurring the boundaries between art and design”, I say. It sounds just so exciting. I'd love to go and blur some of those boundaries.

The Scientific Breakthrough That Will Completely Change The Electric Vehicle Market Tesla's Model S is the only car approaching a 300-mile range, but improving technology could change that quickly. Image owned by The Motley Fool. From an research perspective, the drive to build high-density batteries for electric vehicles is just starting. Sure, research on better batteries has been going on for years, but until the last year or two the electric-vehicle market was so small that universities, much less large battery manufacturers, didn't see it as a priority. That's why Tesla Motors (NASDAQ: TSLA ) essentially stuffed a bunch of computer batteries into a car -- it was the best option available.

Non-adhesive Book « Playful Bookbinding and Paper Works This is the second year I have done this journal project with fifth graders in Saratoga Springs. I wrote about it last year, but in less detail than I plan to write about it today. This workshop day was requested by the school’s reading specialist, who had done a similar project on her own with a few students. She was impressed by the students’ reaction to their journals, and thus requested that I come for a day and make these books with the whole grade level, about 70 students.

Dr. Chris Mullen, The Visual Telling of Stories, illustration, design, film, narrative sequences, magazines, books, prints etc This site records a range of material dedicated to the study of the Visual Narrative.
