Recycling the Past - Floppy Disk Art by Nick Gentry Nick Gentry is an artist and painter from London best known for his portraits that are made out of recycled and used floppy disks. Nick has used other old-fashioned media such as cassettes, Polaroids, and VHS tape paintings for his paintings, but floppy disks are his favorite medium and the artist uses them to represent the collapse of old media in the new world. The British artist is primarily interested in emphasizing on the affect of technological progress and the dispensable nature of things in today's society, and does this by accentuating on the basic themes of life-cycle, technology, and identity. Nick's creativity is inspired by English artist Damien Hirst and Brazilian artist Vik Muniz who changed artistic stereotypes and advanced in the art scene with their clever and innovative use of media.
