Themes have got a more prominent position, as you can access them on a separate Themes Page as well as under each level’s menu item. The number of language level categories has been diminished from five to four, after a vote on Facebook. The former Lower Intermediate Level materials have been transferred either to Beginner 1-3, to Elementary 4-5 or to both. In fact, 70% of teachers told us they had considered quitting the profession over poor behaviour. (Teacher Support Network and Family Lives Behaviour survey 2010) Poor behaviour is a barrier to learning and can easily threaten the health and wellbeing of teachers. On top of other pressures that can occur, the result is lost teaching days, unhappy teachers and failing students. Our top tips outline four basic approaches found to improve classroom behaviour:

The 8 Minutes That Matter Most I am an English teacher, so my ears perk up when writers talk about their process. I've found the advice handy for lesson planning, too. That's because both writing and planning deal with craft. In writing, you want your audience to be absorbed. You want them to care about your characters. You want them be delighted by the suspense. However, in the last few years the idea of student achievement being impacted by lessons taught to their particular learning style has been debunked. No scientific, educational research has proven the validity of teaching for student learning styles; in fact, this blog post collected 10 statements from educational researchers that actually disprove the use of such approaches. We covered the same topic in The Myth of Learning Styles, where we made the point that, “Instructors should not just take into consideration a learner’s style, but also their background and interests.” This suggestion is based in solid research, which documents the positive relationship between student interest and academic success. Teachers do a lot to maintain student interest.

10 Assessments You Can Perform In 90 Seconds Good assessment is frequent assessment. Any assessment is designed to provide a snapshot of student understand—the more snapshots, the more complete the full picture of knowledge. On its best day, an assessment will be 100% effective, telling you exactly what a student understands.
