Maps can be amazing design elements, with all their intricately drawn lines and minute details. But what do you do with a regular paper map that is starting to fall apart from use? In CRAFT Volume 05, crafter Jane Patrick suggested we weave maps into baskets, a fun and interesting way to reuse castoffs and weave a little memory into a functional item. Check out her full tutorial here and pick up a back issue of CRAFT Volume 05, the Paper issue, in the Maker Shed.Woven Memory Basket Weave your vacation road maps into an attractive souvenir. By Jane Patrick Think of basketry as three-dimensional weaving. If you ever wove paper as a child, that’s the basis for this plaited basket. Materials 2-3 large road maps Contrasting string or thread Clothespins Cutting mat Rotary cutter Awl or tapestry needle Scissors Small tweezers White glue (optional) to further stiffen the basket Directions Step 1: Prepare the strips. Fold each strip in half lengthwise. You’ve now woven a diamond.

Wipe Off Weekly Menu Board I am a meal planner. I refuse to go grocery shopping without my week’s worth of meals planned out and list made. (It’s either that or wander aimlessly around the grocery store for two hours and then make ten more trips back during the week to get things I forgot.) Once I get the groceries unloaded, I usually forget what I planned for, so I put together this super easy wipe-off menu board to keep track of what’s for dinner each night! Wipe-Off Menu Board Tutorial Supplies:

Lace Stenciled Framed Song Lyrics! (+our wedding music) If you’ve been following my blog, you know how I made 60 of these painted frames with song lyrics for our wedding decorations /favors… Well, a lot of wedding guests loved them and took one home, but we had a ton left at the end of the night, which we boxed back up and took home with us… So we now have 30 of them hanging on our big white living room wall! Yay!! Paper flower tutorial I thought some of you would enjoy a quick tutorial on how to make those little paper flowers I used as part of my table setting a couple weeks ago. The credit for these go to Martha Stewart (I saw this idea nearly 10 years ago in her magazine, but haven't been able to find it on her website). So here I go.. Step 1: Draw a spiral on a 4x4" square sheet of paper Step 2: Cut out spiral along lines you have drawn Step 3: Begin rolling up the spiral from the outside

Project 16 Week 20 – Newspaper Basket As soon as I spotted this project on the Nifty Thrifty Things blog I knew I had to try it. I dreamt of making big baskets for fabric, small baskets for my jewelry, and on and on. And then I tried it. Gathered Clutch Tutorial Anna of Noodlehead is sharing the most beautiful gathered pouch tutorial. What a perfect gift! Anna has plenty of gorgeous gift giving inspiration at her blog. Don’t miss her tutorials! How to make pretty lights... Ambient light in 5 minutes flat! The jar lights I made created quite a bit of interest. The benefit of using LED lights over tealights is safety & if you’re having an outdoor party you don’t need to worry about weather as the light would of course be protected by the lid of the jar. Edit: I used large jars which were purchased very cheaply from a homewares store but used kitchen jars would work too.

1000 Paper Cranes Backdrop A few weeks ago I introduced you to one of my lovely Brides Laura who was new to the Diary of a Boho Bride feature. You can read all about Laura’s wedding plans HERE . In Laura’s’ introduction I explained that she is a BIG fan of the old DIY and after a few emails and a few sneaky pictures of stuff she had already created, it was clear that she was an even bigger fan of DIY than I first thought. Lace lamp – DIY We are at our little cottage in Dalarna and we are fixing it up. So we are able to use it even in the winter. (Dalarna is in th middle/north of Sweden.
