How Japanese Kids Learn To Multiply – Amazing, No Need to Learn Japanese Thank you to everyone who has shared this post! Before we discuss this great method of multiplying numbers, if you are after a great power point slide show to use in the classroom to improve times tables and multiplication skills then you will find this useful. If you enjoyed using the resource above then make sure to check out the games and tricks available to help develop, practice and learn times tables skills. I came across this method though a Japanese friend and it shows how Japanese pupils learn to multiply in maths lessons at a young age. The great thing is that you do not need to learn Japanese to master this method, all you need to do is to be able to draw and count lines and dots.

Math Games for Kids: Uno Flip Immy is currently loving solving addition and subtraction problems – in fact her maths homework is usually the first thing she wants to tackle in her homework book each week! I enjoy looking for new (albeit simple) ways to encourage her interests and to reinforce what she is learning which is how we came to ‘discovering’ this game that we call Uno Flip! You will need: 10 classroom routines that get kids talking (and writing) about math strategies Most kids find it challenging to explain how they solve math problems and to put what they know about math into words. These ten simple classroom routines can help make math talk a regular part of your day: 1) Start your math block with a strategizing session instead of a traditional warm-up problem. Math Trainer - Multiplication Get in some serious multiplication training. Train yourself to remember, not count. The cutoff time helps with this!

Introduction to Coordinate Graphing Introduce elementary students to coordinate graphing through seasonal coloring activities. The fall Jack-O-Lantern activity requires students to use the grid code and crayons or markers to create a jack-o-lantern on a blank 9x9 grid. The use of letters on the horizontal axis and numbers on the vertical axis introduces young students to coordinate pairs without the confusion of the standard (h,v) format. Notice that it is important that elementary students become accustomed to listing the horizontal coordinate first as this will transfer to the Cartesian coordinates they will use in later grades.
