4X games are a genre of strategy video game in which players control an empire and " e x plore, e x pand, e x ploit, and e x terminate ". The term was first coined by Alan Emrich in his September 1993 preview of Master of Orion for Computer Gaming World . Since then, others have adopted the term to describe games of similar scope and design . 4X games are noted for their deep, complex gameplay . Emphasis is placed upon economic and technological development, as well as a range of non-military routes to supremacy. Games can take a long time to complete since the amount of micromanagement needed to sustain an empire scales as the empire grows. 4X games are sometimes criticized for becoming tedious for these reasons, and several games have attempted to address these concerns by limiting micromanagement with varying degrees of success.

Castle Empire is a browser-based MMO strategy game developed by Ubisoft. You start with a town center, construct buildings, gather resources, explore the map and attack lawless robbers once you’ve reached level 17. There are nine troop varieties and numerous resource types that players can use to their advantage. Castle Empire has plenty of social features – for example, you can add friends and send them goods – and this is handy because the game can get tiring after the initial power-leveling is finished. Later in the game players can equip their explorers with minerals which allow them to search for adventures (these always end in a big battle with great rewards). The graphics are nice, and the game runs smoothly on older computers too.

Anyway, as many of you know, there are 2 official versions of the board game, Axis & Allies: 1. Original 2. Revised They are both fun, but imo, the revised version improved the game as much as broodwar improved SC. You can buy the revised game at any board game store in any mall for around $45-50.
