The key to storytelling is not your perfection but your humanity. The Irish Times has a good, short piece on The Moth, the not-for-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling.

The key to storytelling is not your perfection but your humanity

The Moth started in George Dawes Green's living room in 1997, but soon the storytelling club founded by Green started hosting events in cafes and clubs throughout New York City. The name "The Moth" came from the idea that people are attracted to stories the way moths are attracted to a flame. From The Moth website: "Each show starts with a theme, and the storytellers explore it, often in unexpected ways. Since each story is true and every voice authentic, the shows dance between documentary and theater, creating a unique, intimate, and often enlightening experience for the audience.

" The storytellers are usually novice storytellers who have something interesting to share. Organizational silos don’t need busting. They need ventilating. Posted on March 13, 2014 11:31 am by Shel Holtz | Business | Internal I am officially sick of the silo metaphor and wish it would die.

Organizational silos don’t need busting. They need ventilating.

Everywhere you turn, people talk about tearing down silos, busting silos and smashing silos. Ask a farmer about that, and he’ll doubtless tell you that if you smash his silos, all the grain will fall out. The idea of silos in organizations is meant to conjure an image of employees isolated from one another, just as different types of grains are isolated in their silos.

Organizational change thought leader John Kotter ticks off the consequences of allowing silos to form: Trust is destroyed, communications are stymied, and the organization grows complacent. I’d be willing to bet most of the people who cite the silo metaphor don’t know much about the real things. Periodic Table of Storytelling. Pixar Studios Offers Free Storytelling Lessons Online. Pixar Studios Offers Free Storytelling Lessons Online

Subjects have included color science, animation, effects, sets & staging, character modeling, and so on. Part of the aim of this project, as stated on the Pixar-in-a-Box website is to show how "The subjects you learn in school — math, science, computer science, and humanities — are used every day to create amazing movies at Pixar. " These lessons are remarkable, but what I am most excited about is that last week, Pixar in a Box announced a new series: The Art of Storytelling.

Pixar may be the best at the technical side of animation, but what really made them successful is their understanding of story and storytelling. The storytelling series will cover six main parts that take you from the formation of your rough idea to actually creating storyboards. 11 BIG ideas from Game Design You Should Know – Christina Wodtke – Medium. I personally made most of the errors below. I heretofore apologize to my users and pledge not to do it again. Hopefully, these anti-patterns can help PMs, designers and engineers reduce a bit the amount of time wasted building and looking at shitty dashboards. When I say shitty, I’m not talking Google Image Search-bad (done vomiting yet?). I mean shitty in the sense of boring, poorly designed and devoid of any usefulness whatsoever.

We love seeing what people who might use a site or app think about terminology, hierarchy, and categorization. But sadly, I’ve been in many a research phase where we looked at the results and said “wait – was that a problem because we used the wrong words?” Or “Did they put those together because of how we phrased them or what they associate with that term?” Or even “You thought that card meant that? How Diversity Makes Us Smarter. (Editor’s note (1/30/17): In response to President Donald Trump’s immigration order to close U.S. borders to refugees and visitors from seven predominantly Muslim countries, which has impacted scientists and students, we are republishing the following article from our 2014 special report on how diversity powers science and innovation.)

Argh! “Content is King” is a phrase that seems to have come out of content marketing to express the simple idea that content is now the most important form of marketing. Which is actually a rather weird and restricted meaning of the word content, since it was meant to contrast with traditional advertising which is, after all, content.
