Why The Drawing & Sketching App Paper Won Apple's iPad App For 2012 The sketch and drawing app, Paper, recently won Apple’s 2012 iPad App of the Year Award, and it is very easy to see why. Even if you’re not an artist but are a true fan of the iPad, you will want to check out the unique, custom user interface of Paper. There are dozens of drawing apps in the iTunes Store, but Paper is about as near as it gets to an app that resembles an analog paper notebook. Even if you just want to doodle, Paper’s smooth digital ink, and pen and brushes make you feel like an artist. Paper is a free download, which contains the basic features for getting started, and if you want to do more, there are additional in-app purchases. The User Interface

Flipped learning: A response to five common criticisms One of the reasons this debate exists is because there is no true definition of what “flipped learning” is. Over the past few years, the Flipped Learning method has created quite a stir. Some argue that this teaching method will completely transform education, while others say it is simply an opportunity for boring lectures to be viewed in new locations. While the debate goes on, the concept of Flipped Learning is not entirely new. Cheatsheets Wallpapers for Web Designers and Developers Do you work with a cheatsheet? We have an affinity for shortcuts, and on a cheatsheet we can find loads of shortcuts that will help us complete our work faster. Rather than have a cheatsheet as a side document that needs to be opened everytime we sit down to work, wouldn’t you prefer having access to your favourite shortcuts by just returning to your desktop?

Math Apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad Yesterday, while browsing through the app store on iTunes, I came across a banner-style ad at the top of the page for apps that help you to learn math. I found this feature very helpful and decided to browse through some of the apps. The topics were broken down into sections including Numbers & Operation, Geometry, Algebra, Calculus, Probability & Statistics, Applying Math, and Math Games. Each section provided a short list of apps to choose from based on the topic. I was happy to see that they included such a wide variety of math related topics that included teaching math to toddlers all the way through adulthood.

Create interactive cloze texts For many years now I've known lots of teachers who get really enthusiastic about creating interactive activities with tools like Hot Potatoes. This is great but can be quite time consuming to learn and you need to find somewhere to put your activities online once you have created them. Learnclick is a very good alternative that can help to make this process quicker and easier. First you simply go to the Learnclick website and click on 'Create a Cloze Test'. Once you have done this you simply type in the title of your text and either type in or copy paste in the text that you want to work with (I've chosen a short story from Andrew Wright's marvelous blog).

Top 10 Fonts Web Designers Love When I was starting out with Web and graphic design, I was always wondering about the fonts that real designers use. So I conducted a research to find out the most popular fonts designers like to use, their best practices, and also out of personal curiosity, their typographical needs. It would be nice to know which font is good for which situation and today I am sharing with you the results of my research. Through a combination of data collected from Polldaddy, Forrst, Facebook and Twitter, I got feedback from 34 designers from 14 countries answering questions about their favorite fonts and explaining to me why they love them. By analysing all the input submitted I have uncovered some interesting information, which has been put together in an infographic by friends in Piktochart. Below that, check out the Top 10 list of free and premium fonts, and some of the interesting reasons why designers have their favorite fonts.

How To Create An iPhone Or Android App Without Any Coding Skills But if you’re really eager to make a mobile app based on your website, business, organization, or just a fun quiz game, a website called Buzztouch may well be the web-based solution for you. Buzztouch is essentially Content Management Software for iOS and Android. It provides a template-based process in which you import your app’s information into the online software, and in turn it will create the code that you need to compile the data for your application. I gave a try and it does work. How to Create an App – What You Need

Web Accessibility for Designers The focus of web accessibility is often on web development – the things that happen in HTML, CSS, or JavaScript after a site has been designed visually. Optimal accessibility should start much earlier, as part of the visual design process. We have created an infographic that highlights a few important principles of accessible design. Text Version Using video in the Design School machine workshop Kevin Badni is a Senior Lecturer in the Loughborough Design School. Here he describes his experience of producing tutorial videos, funded by a Teaching Innovation Award, in order to show students how to use metal machining equipment. His findings will be of interest to any colleagues whose students need to learn (and remember) how to use specialist equipment with limited technician support.
