Listening Comprehension – Toilet Training the Cat – Stuart McLean Last year, Canada lost a national treasure – Stuart McLean. He began his radio program The Vinyl Cafe in 1994, and to date has recorded more than 400 stories on CBC radio (Canadian Broadcast Company). It got to be so popular that he traveled throughout small town Canada with musical acts and shared his stories about Dave, Morley, Sam and Stephanie on the Vinyl Cafe with that old radio voice that captivated so many. Now, thanks to the wonder of Spotfiy – The Vinyl Cafe, I get to sit in my kitchen every Sunday morning with my coffee and become entranced once more… now it is even more special because sometimes my 8 year old daughter sits with me too. The Vinyl Cafe is perfect for higher level listening comprehension exercises. So here you go – Toilet Training the Cat .

Businessenglishpod: Telephoning Howtos, intermediate Welcome back to Business English Pod for today’s lesson on complaining and getting results over the phone. Few people actually like to complain, but sometimes you just have to. There’s an old saying that “the squeaky wheel gets the grease,” which means that if you don’t complain, you won’t actually get anything resolved. So if you pay for a product or service and you’re not satisfied, it’s usually best to let the company know. We can complain by email, but email isn’t always powerful enough. We need to use our voice to convey our ideas, emotions, and seriousness. In the dialog, we will rejoin Donna and Mike. Listening Questions 1. Just The Word for HELP Insta.Ling - skuteczna nauka słówek 10 Best Free Listening Websites with Quizzes to Practise for Listening Exams So what do you do to practise listening for exams? Growing up, I never had the opportunity to do any extra practice to improve my listening skills. We didn’t have the Internet and the thousand possibilities it offers to learners of any language nowadays. The teachers had an old tape player that sometimes stopped and started on its own and old tapes that ended up sounding distorted and most of the times unlistenable so if you wanted to get better at listening, you just listened to the radio and struggled to understand the lyrics and sing along. So, exams are just around the corner and I know you’re beginning to freak out. These are, in my opinion, the best sites with quizzes to practise listening comprehension. url: five levels ( A1, A2, B1, B2, C1)Pre-listening /Post-listening activities: bothTranscript: yesAudio Download: yesWhat I like best: very user-friendly for both students and teachers.

ESL Radio and TV: videos with quizz - difficult Teaching speaking - Unit 4: stress and intonation The interactive and downloadable material asks you or your trainees to think about specific pronunciation problems with stress, rhythm and intonation. You will need to match techniques to improve stress rhythm and intonation to specific pronunciation problems and try out some pronunciation activities. The videos in this series express the view that “English language teaching has the same challenges the world over”, but that the solutions to these problems depend very much on the local context, and for this reason the approach taken focuses on tasks that enable the participants to relate the video to their own specific practice and experience. Interactive tasks and videoWatch the video below. It shows Montakarn, Pathumporn, Sumalee and Supote talking about how they help students be more aware of the stress, rhythm and intonation of English. Task 1: Intonation, rhythm and stress ideas. Task 2: Identifying techniques.

the ultimate listening game: ask Google assistant – Keep It Simple Activities Here is a listening game that you will fall in love with and, most importantly, your A1- A2 students will too. You may also try this with higher levels with the suggested items below or with more specific searches. You need Google assistant on your computer or a phone and a set of speakers. Arrange your students in groups of three or four and decide on lexical items you would like to review. Let’s say your students have been learning words for jobs. A trick: if you have another tab open on your browser, you can quickly move tabs when Google starts to read out answers, in order for the students not to see those answers on the screen. You may decide to have a different array of questions or narrow this down to one lexical area, and play different rounds with different letters of the alphabet (as in “jobs beginning with t”, “jobs beginning with w”, etc.). So how can this be used for low levels? Can you think of more?
