Zentangle® Hi All, I know this isn't watercolor, although I do combine it with watercolors sometimes, but I'm answering the question that was raised in this morning's "WASH" as to what zentangle® is. I've become a Certified Zentangle Teacher, or CZT, since I used to hang around here in WC and I just wanted to post this somewhere where those who asked the question as to what zentangle® is would see the answer. (My making anywhere near beginning of the "Daily Wash" thread is a rarity.) I imagine this would normally be posted in a "Mixed Media" forum. Please accept my apologies for this one-time breach of WC etiquette. Yes, as someone said, and to put it simply, zentangle® is a meditative form of art using repetitive patterns. Tangles are basically done on 3.5" X 3.5" tiles with a micron pen, no artistic talent needed. And here is a zentangle® inspired piece of artwork, or as it's called in the tangling world, a ZIA, that I began by dropping watercolors onto Strathmore bristol paper.

Are we all born with synaesthesia? – Shruti Ravindran Vladimir Nabokov once called his famed fictional creation Lolita ‘a little ghost in natural colours’. The natural colours he used to paint his ‘little ghost’ were especially vivid in part because of a neurological quirk that generated internal flashes of colour whenever letters of the alphabet appeared within his mind. In his memoir Speak Memory (1951), he described a few of them: ‘b has the tone called burnt sienna by painters, m is a fold of pink flannel, and today I have at last perfectly matched v with “Rose Quartz” in Maerz and Paul’s Dictionary of Color’. The condition he had was synaesthesia, a neurological oddity that mixes up the senses, making those who possess it see as well as hear music, or taste the shapes they set their eyes upon. Synaesthetes such as Nabokov see letters and numbers wreathed in fixed, seemingly idiosyncratic colours. Popular now Are male and female circumcision morally equivalent?
