Home Welcome to MathVIDS! A Resource for Teaching Mathematics to Struggling Learners MathVIDS is an interactive website for teachers who are teaching mathematics to struggling learners made possible through funding by the Virginia Department of Education. The primary theme of MathVIDS is to help educators connect why struggling learners have difficutly learning matheamtics to effective instructional practices for these students. Use the navigation menus and links at the top of the page to explore the MathVIDS website and find information and resources pertinent to your interests and needs or click on "site index " at the top right hand corner for a quick overview of the website.

Great Math Links Why Use Technology in the Classroom? Technology, when used appropriately, can help make science classroom a site of active learning and critical thinking, furthering student inquiry and connections with the materials. Teachers can use technology to enable students to explore fundamental curriculum issues and answer core questions. Students can use the Internet, electronic databases, applets and other online sources to gather information. They can use spreadsheets, virtual labs, and other programs to store, organize, and analyze information. Students can also integrate multimedia desktop publishing, web publishing, video and audio editing, as well as graphics programs to create and present information in innovative and engaging ways. illuminations Finding the Balance Pre-K-2, 6-8 This lesson encourages students to explore another model of subtraction, the balance. Students will use real and virtual balances. Students also explore recording the modeled subtraction facts in equation form.

A Math Framework for Multiple Grade Levels As a K–12 district math coach, I travel to 67 classrooms and participate in math instruction at different grade levels. Traveling outside of my school district, I’ve communicated with many pre-K through university math educators in person, on campuses, at conferences, and through social media. I’ve encountered rich math experiences at the secondary level, but found that they could not easily be transferred to primary classrooms. Likewise, I’ve experienced some highly effective practices in primary classrooms that would be difficult to implement in secondary settings. And I’ve noticed that elementary teachers generally converse with other elementary teachers and secondary teachers most often converse with one another.

Coping With Math Anxiety What Is Math Anxiety? A famous stage actress was once asked if she had ever suffered from stage-fright, and if so how she had gotten over it. She laughed at the interviewer’s naive assumption that, since she was an accomplished actress now, she must not feel that kind of anxiety. She assured him that she had always had stage fright, and that she had never gotten over it. Instead, she had learned to walk on stage and perform—in spite of it. Recapping learning in primary maths Regardless of whether your class are working towards formal examinations, internal tests or simply at the end of a unit of work, taking the time to go over previously taught topics is always a valuable exercise and a great way to deepen understanding. With revision being an alien concept for many young learners, it is especially important to make these sessions engaging and accessible, so that your whole class feel that they can achieve. We’ve done the hard work for you by selecting a range of pupil-friendly revision resources, designed to captivate budding mathematicians.
