48 Ultra-Cool Summer Sites for Kids and Teachers A good majority of northern hemisphere and international schools are winding down the 2011-2012 school year and doors will be closing as the students and teachers take off on their summer adventures. Here is a list of great sites for kids and teachers to keep you happily productive and learning this summer. These are in no way in any order of personal preference or coolness. Happy summer! 1. Magic Tree House Weapons of maths destruction: are calculators killing our ability to work it out in our head? Since the 1980s we have had access to calculators of various types. Today, we can include computers and smartphones – which are attached to our hip 24/7. So does this ubiquitous access to calculators affect our ability to do maths in our heads like we used to? Thirty years ago calculators promised immense opportunity – opportunity, alas, that brought considerable controversy. The sceptics predicted students would not be able to compute even simple calculations mentally or on paper. Multiplication, basic facts, knowledge would disappear.

High School Math Adventures with Mrs. B: Pythagorean Theorem Board Game This fun board game is a great way to to have student actively practice using the Pythagorean Theorem. The rules are printed right on to the game board so each group of student always have the rules in case they need to reference them throughout the game.
