The LED light tubes do not generate any heat during use, allowing the creators to use atypical materials for the fixture: wood and cork. Every year thousands of trees are felled in the Amsterdam area. Usually the city trees disappear from root to branch in a shredder. The wood for the Ninebyfour fixture however comes from these salvaged trees. The former location of the ‘unfortunate’ trees are stamped on the cork. Labt. Amazing laser-cut vases by Jon Kleinhample. Cool Hunting, an online magazine for all things “cool”, occasionally really comes up with the goods. Two days ago they featured a vase made by architect Jon Kleinhample for Belgium based studio LMBRJK, who ‘create custom art objects from natural materials.’ What Kleinhample produced was the Trillip vase series, made using both soft and hardwoods native to Slovenia. The vases, inspired by tulips, are painstakingly constructed piece by piece using laser-cut slides of wood. Each vase, as you might imagine, is ‘entirely unique’.
