CHRISTIAN VOGT

Since the late 1960s Christian Vogt has produced a photographic oeuvre impressive for its creative inventiveness and its unexpected twists. He is a master of the art of photographic haikus, and a virtuoso of associative story telling with pictures. To Vogt, photography is never a mere reproduction but always a speculation about the meaning of the story hidden behind the surface, a reflection on the subjectivity of the photographic eye, in the awareness that the actual picture only emerges through the perception of the beholder… Martin Gasser, «Today I've been you» 2009, Recipient of Swiss National Scholarships; the first Grand Prix Triennale of Fribourg; Canada Council Grant; Art Director's Awards from Switzerland, Germany, New York und Los Angeles; the 'Clio' Award, New York, 1992; Kulturpreis der Stadt Basel 1991; etc. Paolo Roversi. Back home, he set up a darkroom in a convenient cellar with another keen amateur, the local postman Battista Minguzzi, and began developing and printing his own black & white work. The encounter with a local professional photographer Nevio Natali was very important: in Nevio’s studio Paolo spent many hours realising an important apprenticeship as well as a strong durable friendship. From the age of three he lived in East Ham.[5] "In the winter", he recalled, the family "would take bread-and-jam sandwiches and go to the cinema every night because in those days it was cheaper to go to the cinema than to put on the gas fire. I'll bet I saw seven or eight movies a week I remember our house being bombed when I was three. I remember watching the doodlebugs [V-1 flying bombs] in the sky. I remember looking through the railings, waiting for my mum to take me home from Plashet Grove school. Bailey developed a love of natural history, and this led him into photography.
