TEDxSF - A Curation Of People And Ideas... Posted by Tom Foremski - June 5, 2011 I've been to several TEDxSF events but the most recent one felt like a breakthrough event because of the mix of people and talks, plus the new venue. The event was sold out with about 650 tickets for the Yerba Buena location, a larger theater than the Academy of Sciences, where it used to be held. The mix of people was eclectic as always. There were at least two or three talks where I wished for the return of the old Vaudeville stage hook, or maybe a remote controlled trapdoor. Most of the rest of the talks were interesting, intriguing, and some were even brilliant.

Facilitating Collaborative Design Workshops – a step by step guide for rapidly creating a shared vision for execution So how do you do great design in a rapid, multidisciplinary and inclusive way? PLoS Collections: Article collections published by the Public Library of Science The healthy adult body hosts ten times as many microbial cells as human cells, including bacteria, archaea, viruses, and eukaryotic microbes resident on nearly every body surface. The metagenome carried collectively by these microbial communities dwarfs the human genome in size, and their influences on normal development, diet and obesity, immunity, and disease are under active research. Funded by the National Institutes of Health Common Fund, the Human Microbiome Project (HMP) was established to provide a comprehensive baseline of the microbial diversity at 18 different human body sites. This includes reference genomes of host-associated microbial isolates, 16S rRNA marker gene sequencing for thousands of healthy microbiomes, 3.5Tb of metagenomic sequences, assemblies, and metabolic reconstructions, and a catalogue of over 5M microbial genes. The Human Microbiome Project Collection encompasses publications from consortium members generating, leveraging, and exploring these resources.
